I ate a Snickers yesterday!

I want a hot dog - with lots of mustard.

I'm trying to use up some of the stuff in the freezer. I have some shrimp and andouille sausage, so I think I'll make some kind of Cajun pasta dish tonight.

My husband made the best brunch today.

Western omelets, smoked bacon, grits, fruit salad and cinnamon buns.

I usually just eat cereal or oatmeal with blueberries and almonds.

per request...

Chile Relleno Bake

1/2 lb ground beef
1/2 lb pork sausage
1 cup chopped onion
2 cloves garlic
2 (4 1/2 oz) cans whole green chiles, drained and seeded, divided
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese, divided
4 eggs
1/4 c. flour
1 1/2c milk
salt and pepper to taste

*note - that's what the recipe book calls for. i'll add in commentary, plus more seasonings and spices i use.

brown meats; add onion and garlic; cook until onion is soft. drain off fat. for veggie friendly dish, cube potatoes, saute with garlic and onion. i always use extra garlic, plus cumin, chili powder and oregano to season the meat. for chile rellenos, a dash of allspice, a handful of chopped walnuts and a hand full of raisins are also yummy.

spray a 9" square baking pan and line with half of the chiles. layer with 1 1/2c cheese.
in this step, the recipe calls for just cheddar. i like to mix cheddar, cream cheese, sour cream and queso fresco, then layer. what ever cheeses are in the fridge really. add meat/potato layer. layer with remaining chiles. beat eggs and flour until smooth. add milk. blend well. season to taste with salt and pepper. pour over casserole. bake at 350* for about 40 minutes or until a knife comes out clean. top with remaining shredded cheese the last 15 minutes. let stand before serving.

Thank you! I'm going to use TVP (textured veggie protein) instead of potatoes in this. Yum. That's dinner tonight!

had a small Greek salad and a cup of she-crab soup.

It seemed like a good combination at the time. :(

It was!

Those crazy AussieBrits were making fun of me earlier today. I guess when all you have to eat is spotted dick and kangaroo you tend to lash out at others.

Is that the powdered gravy stuff you were talking about a week ago or something?

Can I be honest? Ew. That is not my idea of delicious. At all.

Tonight I made garlic-lime chicken, quinoa with black beans, and steamed broccoli. Even the follow-up burps taste good.

A Vietnamese woman made me my very own Chinese New Year celebration lunch yesterday.

I had rice, marinated chili and oyster sauce pork belly, salads and dragon fruit.

It was yum.

Chinese New Year Traditions

On the first day of the Chinese New Year, or Lunar New Year, it is considered bad luck to sweep, so leave such chores till later. It is also considered bad luck to mention words like "death" and "sickness"; keeping conversation positive should bring good luck in the year ahead.

Decorate your house in red to bring good fortune, with bowls of mandarins to bring happiness.

Chinese New Year lasts two weeks and is traditionally a time to honour ancestors and Chinese gods. The centuries-old celebrations end with the Lantern Festival on the 15th day of the New Year.

Do an internet search on your sugar and your corn syrup, before you buy-

Pure, clean sugar is pretty much a poison, even if it is organic.
High fructose corn syrup is a chemical refinery nightmare.

Who cares about national obesity and diabetes numbers ? Cash money can be made.
So much money is made, the people who supply sugar and hf corn syrup could afford
to throw away billions of dollars.

What did they use those billions for ? Sugar and hf corn syrup battled it out through the people that they bought off. Market share made it worth it.
Why did the Food and Drug Administration let hf corn syrup slide under the fence, and let them declare their hf corn syrup "natural" ?

High fructose corn syrup is all natural ? Why prevent full disclosure about it ? Which people were paid retainers to serve as outside exerts ?
Why were the experts coached in secret ? Who fudged official documents ?

Why pay a public relations firm in secret ? Why did the Center for Consumer Freedom run the propaganda ads for the hf corn syrup industry ?

What do you know about Richard Berman, and the Center for Consumer Freedom ? Plenty of articles have been written about how unethical R. Berman is.

What would you expect from a non-profit named Citizens for Health ? Would you be surprised to read that half its annual budget was provided for by the sugar industry ?

Marion Nestle's comments-

"It is a plague on both their houses."
(she adds that she felt manipulated by the corn refiners industry, which used her statements to defend its products.)
"It is a disgusting performance neither should be proud of."
