Alright gang, welcome to the newest installment of the Wheel Challenge. In this one, the subject is Rainy Day. Open your minds, open your hearts, bring us that glimpse of your soul. Tell us about a Rainy Day, or days or after the rain, before the rain, and anything that comes to you about a Rainy Day.

15- 45 lines

Annnnnnnd, if you feel so inclined, not a requirement, maybe try what Cass and I call a Haiku Storm. This form, (doesn't seem to have its own category, unless I am mistaken) involves writing your piece in standardized haiku form, each stanza of 5-7-5 syllables could easiily stand alone within your piece, but somehow ties into the entirety of the poem. Create a minimum of 5 stanzas.

Example: (one I wrote awhile ago,)

Touches

In the dark of night
Quiet, serene, candlelight
There is you and I

Smooth tea with liquor
Lemon, warming, sipping it
Whispers in the night

Kisses and touches
Ears, eyes, lips, hair, and fingers
Light, sleepy, and sweet

Dreamlike, with desire
Slowly making love before
Sleep takes us away

A quiet place always
Here forever, you and I
A world of our own

Today is Tuesday, this challenge will last until this coming Sunday midnight, your local time. (Pirate Code, me hearties. The rules are basically a guideline)

Last one in has the privilege, should they accept it, to start the next challenge thread, choose the title and determine conditions.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Additionally, if you are new to this challenge series, please visit the previous installments to read or post your own poetic view of that subject. Of course, anyone can jump right in at any point.

She walks through rain
like it was water
both pure - almost

Relaxed shoulders
accept the flow go with
the inevitable

Kneeling at the font
of my sodden Venus’
life giving steam

I trace a drop
down her neck, back, legs, ankle,
toe my tongue

I’m smitten
if this is gutter life
let it be me

West Coast Trail memories

There’s nothing special
about rainbows, just light diffracting
through rain drops, if you’re in
the right place at the right
time you see colours.
Lighting’s different, way more
scary, when your hair stands on end,
the air crackles and the flash and boom
come on top of each other.

But this rain isn’t like that,
no flash, no rainbows
just slow and steady for the
last three days, pausing every
now and then to tease you
before resuming, always in
evening when you’re trying to
set up camp, light the stove and
choke down the day’s freeze dried
whatever.

Your boots are clogged with mud
sometimes knee deep
and your thigh throbs where
that stick poked you on a
poor dismount from a wet
slippery log on the second
day. It’s worst climbing up
and down the unending
ladders that make the trail
almost possible.

Your tent and sleeping bag
smell like a wet dog and you
smell worse and though
you’ve filter the water
there’s a sour taste.

Then the rain goes away
and the sun sets over the
infinite ocean,
a full moon rises in the east
and it’s suddenly magic.

The soft warmth of your long time friendship has grown
like a Summer storm, building on the horizon.
Heavy air a mood of suppressed emotion as the storm brews.
Your words so perfectly conjure a sense of foreboding,
of anticipation and waiting. The eerie stillness
before the first fat drops of rain, when storm light
makes luminous all roofs and fields and stands
black silhouettes of trees on the horizon.
This is the storm of expectation, a solution about to be offered
or all hell about to break loose,
stranded in that strange light that stills my heart
until I'm drenched and waiting..........

Rainy Days and Nights

Steadily rain falls
A regular soft drumbeat
Creating puddles

Soaked through my clothing
Outdoors without my raincoat
Miserable cold

Splashing in puddles
Showered by another car
Shivering and wet

A final puddle
And unlocking the front door
Rain rolls down my nose

At last I am home
Quickly stripping off my clothes
She meets me and smiles

Hot soothing shower
No more shivering with cold
Soapy clean with smiles

A fresh warm towel
Dries me towards happiness
Clean dry fleece to wear

The kettle whistles
Hot tea in my easychair
Rain on the windows

A merry fireplace
Here indoors with my lady
And distant thunder

The power goes out
Candlelight and hot romance
Takes us through the night

She sleeps in my arms
The steady rain keeps falling
Peaceful and dreamy

Rain on Me

Upstairs to the gallery, studio if you will,
follow that rolling ass, up, close,
nose open, tympanic greeting above,
redneck white noise, rain on a tin roof.

Schmooze paint n sight,
perspective, use of light,
whimsical or somber,
ponder a bed of oils n brushes,
haphazard 'cross the coverlet,
cleared with an offer to pose

Late night as he shifts her,
manipulates, singing rush of rain,
cries of satisfaction, don't move,
lave of brush, she moans, come to me.
Wait your turn.

In the end paint covers all,
him, her, the canvas.
The rain applauds.

cascadia rain

Winter northwest rain
Trickling splashing early morn
Smiling in your arms

Soggy skies enfold
Bank the woodstove and sleep late
Warmly kiss, caress

Morning sweet loving
Rain streaked windows witness
Bright eyes and damp thighs

All smiles, kettle on
Hot coffee in our bathrobes
Puppy at our feet

Shall we take a walk?
Puppy prances eagerly
Boots, coats, hats and leash

Hand in hand we walk
Undeterred by the drizzle
Breathing the clean air

Rain squalls mar the Sound
Pidgeon guillemots huddle
Your kisses warm me

Dance me on the shore
rain soak'd cascadia girl
Caught up in your arms

Darkness comes early
Drizzle becomes steady rain
We turn our steps home

Wet dog, dripping coats
Wind howls around the snug house
Cuddling on the couch

Candlelight and rain
Nothing is more magical
For lovers at night

Passionate kisses
Raindrops thrumming on skylights
Joined by moans and cries

May my love, like rain
Wash you, fill you, heal your soul
Cascadia rain

Drizzled memory

Sitting on the porch,
and thinking how today's rain
reminds me of you;

It's in the little
pieces, how they wear a soul
down--soft, damp, chilling;

And the way dark clouds
obscure the sun and the sky,
leaving just darkness;

How softly singing
the Go Away song calms me,
letting work get done;

But mostly because
it will eventually pass,
which brightens my day.

Cascadia rain
smudgy grey skies, misty morn
the air clean and cool

splattering rain drops
gortex zipper’d, hood up
puddles everywhere

glistening wet leaves
dancing dripping with the rain
fern fronds, cedar boughs

precipitation
sheets of rain run down the drive
rain chain patter splash

pacific coast skies
salt meets fresh and herons fish
Cascadia rain

late additional entry, but I wanted to post my other attempt at this challenge.

I like this poem very much. It creates a mood. It reads very well and paints a picture in my mind.
Nice job with the "haiku storm":)

Thanks...I may see if I can come up with something that might be a little more about the actual rain as opposed to this one, but we'll see. :)

Oh, I agree with Cas. Looking forward to what you write on anything.

Speaking of which.....

As the progenitor of this thread, I'm invoking Pirate rules and say that you were the last poster within the alotted time guidelines.

Passing the baton to you.

Haopy Monday. :)

But what about Cas' poem after mine? Or were you talking to them? *crossing fingers, looking hopeful*

You, my friend, Remec are the winner this round. Go for it. It'll be great Looking forward to it. If you need some help with the opening post with all the links etc., let me know. I'll send you a PM.

When the front porch was taken down
what I missed the most was lying in bed
listening to hard rain drum, drumming
on the roof outside my bedroom window,
a thundering downpour gurgling down the gutters,
sending me to sleep, until I woke to a pristine
garden washed world of puddles, and trees
dropping their burden onto unwary passersby.

rain spits and splatters
cloud cover quiets my mind
wet shoulders and toes

pull on my rainboots
hunker in fleece and goretex
fresh green makes me smile

rainchain music plays
soothing me to sleep each night
the joys of northwest winter
