Anal Sex

Just wondering about this, as a bottom I am reading that guys love it, my question is is about damage that can be done to a persons rectum. I imagine someone sticking something in another persons ass that is quite large like a 6 or 7 inch dick , what are the side effects ? Forgive me if I see kind of naive but just wondering.
