I know what you mean, and yes I have, but not in years.
I've discovered, as I've gotten older, that in general, I can talk with almost anyone. I'm not perfect, but it's actually easier than I used to think. I've learned to approach people, and which people are most approachable. And if you're observant, you can actually find the other people who are "alone in the room full of people" .... cuz really, there's ALWAYS more than you in the boat ... and get a conversation started.
One of the keys to getting a conversation started is ASK them about themselves. I didn't used to know this. But it makes so much sense.
