Actually, that's been explained as an optical illusion. What's really happening is that the shockwave from those nine 16" naval rifles is such that it drives the water forward. Which, in its own way, is just as impressive.

Makes me long for the never-constructed Montana class. They would have mounted twelve in four turrets. What a muthuh she would have been.

A friend was on a DD that escorted the New Jersey off of Nam and he said it did move some. What was worse was being inshore and getting the blast at you :eek:
