A big hit against women ahead? Who abuses more?

Dispenza, who spent 15 years in a habit before becoming an activist against the Catholic church, is bracing for an onslaught of cases against nuns, who typically run schools and orphanages, and spend exponentially more time with children than priests.

“They are with kids at school every day from nine to three,” she said.

They also far outnumber priests. There are 55,944 nuns in the US and 41,406 priests, according to statistics compiled by SNAP.

I never met anyone who was taught by nuns and didn't describe them as being disturbingly sadistic, even if they weren't molesting.

The CARDINAL story has been covered by every major outlet.

However, the NUNS story is newer.

Oh, my bad, I assumed the story would be bigger than Russian Collusion, and didn't realize it had already been pushed out of the news cycle. Pfft, it's one day old and real, only fake stories get page one for over two years!

Headline news over here.

Question: is it fake news to report that an investigation is taking place and going in a particular direction? Also, isn't an investigation into one of the most powerful politicians in the world worthy of headlines?

The "news cycle" is based on popularity. If enough people were still clicking on the Cardinal Defrocking story, it would still be on the front page.

I think with that particular story, the headline says it all and no one actually clicked it. I didn't. Because it's not shocking. It's almost expected. Well, the fact the pope actually did something is odd.

Exactly. And millions of people actually search "Trump Investigation" every day.

Or click on headlines that mention it. "Pervert Priest" just doesn't have traction.

Priests abusing children. Nuns abusing children. Priests abusing nuns. Sounds like maybe a certain religion needs to relax that celibacy clause.

Pervert priests has been going on for so long now, it really is just an "oh, another one?" reaction now.

The possibility of America having its pres arrested, and the political and civil unrest that would doubtless follow, is more of a draw.

One story is high political drama. The other is a big yawn and a shake of the head.

I wouldn't say that. But there's only so much of the same repeated horror you want to read and reread. It demanded noise when the church and state both covered it up, but now it's been acknowledged people don't want or need to traumatise themselves over it each day.

If someone posted that they believe the investigation is politically motivated, an attempt to discredit a democratically elected leader, and will come to nothing? I'd consider their point.
When they scream "FAKE NEWS!!!!", as though the investigation itself isn't newsworthy, I do find myself making assumptions on their intellect and maturity.

I don't know where you're coming from there dolfette. Me? I'm thinking that if this was as much a problem as it is with the priests it would have hit the press long ago. I suspect there's more of problem in the nunnery than there is in the schools.

Clarify please.

Clarify how the thread went off on a tangent, on how the Russian collusion investigation is a bigger headline, because fake news?

...no

Follow the narrative dolfette. How could it be otherwise in today's media and perception?

It's an opinion piece, a fantasy. You know how that works girl. And I know your mind almost as well as I know my own. GIVE US SOME FACTS. It's just that with certain phrases your mind goes this way and mine goes the other, two nations separated by a common language.

Caesar must be killed by any means.

Religious schools in general are really bad for child abuse. In the US they aren't playing by the same rules as public school, and it's much, much more difficult to detect the abuse. They don't, for example, have to have a developmental psychologist on staff, at all. They just don't have to have one. So they generally don't. And that's the person kids go to to report abuse at home or from teachers. The amount of abuse that goes on at those places is fucking crazy and I am DELIGHTED if someone is FINALLY going to do something about it because it keeps me up at night.

It's not just the sexual abuse. They beat the shit out of these kids, psychologically torture then, and sometimes ship them off to Jesus Camps where kids are sometimes beaten to death.

If y'all want to start off your morning with tears and outrage, here's a documentary: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zG1o95oqkqI

People who have a religion that has a core tenant of authoritarianism and violence, that literally believe that one must "beat the devil out of a child" to "train them up" should not be allowed to isolate these children from society by using religious schools. It isn't just Catholicism, it's a more widespread problem than that.

It's still worth fighting against. Those kids deserve better.

I read it and was left thinking, "one Cardinal, that's it?"
