An arrow, in the eye? Ewww. Owww. *cringes and shivers* That's terrible. I can't even imagine the level of pain that would be. Egads.

But at least they think sight will return. And I suppose it could have been a lot worse. But still, the eye,.....ow. Ow. It hurts just thinking about it.

well... in this violent day and age...

i'm glad it wasn't a gun! :(

and she'll recover from it... hopefully completely...

A lot of you guys already know what's been going on with my niece that's been keeping me off the web, so I figured I might as well post the update here so I don't forget to tell anyone.

First, a brief summary for those I haven't told about this yet, who would like to know: my sister's family came down from Toronto a week and a half ago to spend a month vacationing at a cottage here. Well, five days ago one of my nephews accidentally shot my 5 year-old niece in the eye with an arrow *cringing just writing it* - since the only major pediatric ophthalmology department in the maritime provinces is here in the city, my sister, brother-in-law, and all three kids (3, 5, and 9) are all staying here right now (yup, it's crowded!), so I've been pretty busy dragging the two boys out as much as possible to keep them from climbing the walls. She had a torn iris, and bleeding in the back of the eye, but the specialists thought she'd probably recover almost full use of the eye in a few weeks - provided she didn't get any secondary bleeding (which meant bed rest for a week, not an easy thing for an active 5 year-old).

The update: the eye has healed enough now that they can finally see all the way back to the retina, and they've discovered that a piece of her retina is detached - so she's been admitted into the hospital and will be having the retina surgically reattached either this evening or tomorrow morning (if that works it will still be possible for her to regain most of her sight in that eye). The worst news - to keep the retina from detaching again, after surgery she will have to stay in bed, with as little movement as possible, for about five weeks (I have no idea how we're going to manage this feat).

Oh, and of course they can't go back to toronto until it's healed - the vibrations of a car or plane would just tear the retina back off again. So it's going to be totally stressful and insane around here for the next month, and I seriously doubt I'll be getting much time online most days.

Keep your fingers crossed for her.

That's terrible Crys, I pray she makes a complete recovery....I have no ideas on how to keep her still but if you just explain to her without scaring her that she has to rest for a while she will be okay...

Tell her she has to hibernate like a gummy bear...

Pm it to me if you want and I will add you to my buddy list, so if I conference everyone, you can be invited.
