One achieves the rank of general or admiral by being a political creature. The higher the rank, the more political, and (usually) the thicker hide. The same thing we have been doing for four years. Advising and assisting the armed forces of Niger, and other countries in the area, fight terror groups. Monthly flights from the Royal Air Force land in Chad to support French ground operations. He dishonored his son by letting Trump, a fucking moron draft dodger who knows zilch about military issues and even has stated he knows more than the generals do--and who even falsely claimed he had donated to veteran's organizations until called on it--use what Kelly had been keeping private since his son was killed for political peanuts to his dwindling gallery of "not too bright" followers.

To that point Kelly was nobly not making hay, political or otherwise, over the loss within his military family (although I didn't go military, I'm from a military family myself. And my father was a silver-star decorated general who eventually succumbed to his war wounds). He let Trump use his son's death to try to wriggle out of his inept response to the Niger incident.

And Kelly himself sank into Trumpian behavior from that point on. With a lot of people who count, he destroyed a reputation he'd built up over thirty years in one afternoon. He's now just another one of Trump's trained baboons. And he dragged his dead son into it. He didn't just let Trump do that, he joined him. He even managed to attack another Gold Star family in the process.

He most certainly did throw away "his integrity, his honor, and his dignity."

Of course he did that when he went to work for Trump. In his press conference he lamented the lost of respect for things that were respected when he was a kid, one of which was women. Yet he chose to go to work for a man who bragged about sexually assaulting women.

He lamented the loss of respect for the military, though there was a lot of disrespect for the military when he was a teen and early 20's. Yet he went to work for a man who attacked a gold star family and made a patsy of a marine corporal in order to further his political career.

Former Marine General John Kelly flat out has little integrity, honor or dignity.
