"Evasive action! Who the Hell can that be?" snarls the Captain, slamming her muscular fist on the arm of her command chair. "Oh no, could it be the Jai'in sisters. Can they have heard about the cargo of beautiful doe-eyed slave lads we lured aboard with so much effort?" Her magnificent breasts heaved with annoyance in her shimmering mesh jacket.

Elizabeth backed through the door, humming a jazz tune she heard at the club the night before, then turned to survey the table that her mother set. She tucked her bobbed hair behind her ear and picked a cucumber sandwich from the plate. One bite made her wrinkle her nose in disdain. That was not at all fashionable. Maybe the macaroons would be better. Never mind; the boys were already waiting for her.

Setting: A gravel bar on the bottom of the Grand Canyon, with rafts pulled up above the river and a small campfire to light the night.

The Bruja--the Lady of Desires--stepped from the shadows. Santiago Lopez recognized her, but his horse shied then bolted. He landed on the grassy stream bank, bruised but otherwise unhurt. What did she want of him? All he knew was that home in San Luis Potosi was a long way away.

Setting: At the edge of a melting glacier in what is now central England, 10,000 years ago.

Ga'gra stood at the edge of the glacier, closely watching the mammoth entering the fen formed by the melt water. Would the ground be soft enough to slow the beast down for Ga'gra's stone-tipped lance? Before he could know, something flew through the air and impaled itself in the animal's thick hide. Who or what had acted so brashly?...

The Elders had been recording how high the summer waters rose each great turning of the sun, for as many turnings as it took for a boy child to grow to be a man, and for a girl child to grow to be a woman. And the people grew fearful, as each turning the waters rose higher. Up where the great northern star stood still in the sky, the ice mountains cracked and fearsome torrents of blue water thundered down canyons.

The people were afraid, for the gods were angry, and melted the ice. Six slender boys and six curvaceous girls were prepared, to be sent north as a sacrifice....

Setting: In the deepest pit of hell the great worm Lucifer lay, his scaled hulking body huge and scabrous, his breath most foul.

"Ninth Circle!" announced the elevator boy as he opened the door. Beatrice found his voice more than pleasant, and his youthful face more than attractive. She gently placed her hand on his chest and found his muscles tautly straining against his uniform. She felt his body temperature rise to match hers.

"Is this ladies' lingerie?' she questioned in her most sensual, most inviting voice...

Pedro Martinez stroked his chin and thought, "Maybe Melania's home."

Jade smoothed out some imaginary wrinkles in the close-fitting top that hugged around magnificent E cup breasts. She gave a twirl of her hips to shake out the miniscule amount of material she called a skirt, which was failing to cover her ass-ets. "I sure hope the Man from Del Monte he will say 'yes'," she muttered gloomily to herself. Would her double set of twin orbs, in front and behind, distract him sufficiently to accept the sub-standard orange crop? or would her poor 'Uncle', who had kept her for all this time in a style to which she would very much like to become accustomed, be ruined.

Setting: a beach in South Glamorganshire; ribs of rock and rockpools are fringed by golden sand, the sun lowers in the West over the tide at its ebb.

Maeve made her way slowly over the rocks, picking her way down the shore towards the receding water's edge. Copper-red hair glittered in the amber light; everything was yellows and oranges. Sunset was near, and the sea birds wailed disconsolately.

Long legs made her steps across the sand more certain, but her face was full of doubt. She was a young Irish girl of few travels, beyond her small ken at the seacoast of Wales, and felt very out of her element.

But if John's letter had been true, she'd find a green glass bottle with a note and a key, wedged in the rocks at the lowest ebb. And with the key...

She shivered. She wanted to believe John, with all her heart.

New setting:

A brilliantly lit natural grotto at the shore of a rich Carribean island, awash with waves and music from a distant and expensive hotel.

A large cigarette boat eases its way in. A line is thrown from the ledge just above the water. The boat is pulled in tight and large bales of a green leafy substance are pushed into the boat. Once loaded the boat backs its way out into the open ocean. It's time for its daily run to Florida.

"God that annoying." the white-coated clinician said. His assistant was a burly man named Ralph, who walked beside him, with massive, hairy arms swinging at his sides.

The clinician paused in the hallway and produced a handkerchief from inside his lab coat. He handed the handkerchief to Ralph and said, "The next time my wife decides that she wants to watch Fox News, stuff this in her mouth."

"Yes, Dr. Venkman," shouted the Manager into the telephone, "we definitely need your services. The sounds emanating from each of our banquet rooms are so unworldly that our catering staff refuse even to open a door, let alone enter."

"Accursed swine," the first mate gritted. "They dragged him there, they did, and no mercy given, no judge, just the guards and rabble intent on stringing captain Blake up. But no mortal man was Captain Blake. Oh we warned them we did...."

The mate took a pull and spit on the floor. "We warned them but no point came o' it. They chased us off with hot lead and jeers and got back to their dark business. But here's the rub, my friends. No good comes of killing the dead. The snapping of his neck just left Old Blake jeering and laughing, so they panicked and burned his body as it hung. You see how that ended. They freed his spirit from the broken prison of his body and the Old Blake, he'd had enough of their foolin'. Tore the guards limb from limb and none could see the hands that did it. Sure enough Blake be bound now to the gallows, and ye see him as that unholy glow. But the time comes when he's free again, and I tell you no man and certainly no woman will be safe then. Tear down the prison, rip down the stone of the gallows, do as you please. Blake will return."

He finished the bottle and smashed it on the floor. "You trifled with Hell. And Hell does not forget."

Commander Cho shrugged his shoulders to adjust his protective gear, then grumbled into his communicator, "Well shit. There went my best hound dog." He turned to survey Lieutenant Herrera's tight body. He studied the way her uniform stretched over her breasts and hugged her firm butt then said, "I know why that was necessary, but it's just slow suicide for us. There's no reason we have to go out ungratified. My bunk is bigger than yours. Let's go."

Major Cho gripped Sergeant Herrera's tight form and speared her from behind, eliciting a moan of pleasure from her shivering lips.

"Don't act like you haven't been begging for this, Sargent."

"Every damn day, Major," she moaned softly. "It's just... look at that moon. Do you think we'll ever get there?"

"Don't know about we, you little fucktoy. With the plague spreading the way it is... don't know if it matters. But I'm going to send you there right now. Less chatter, Sargent."

He pounded her brutally, and she cried out, thrusting back, staring at the moon overhead...

Setting: a pink and white bedroom on her 18th birthday, with her shaking fingers clutching the empty vial of Madrigal, and a stuffed pink toy elephant perched warily nearby.

First Man cowers; the T'swi surround him, claws, teeth, talons, and beaks at the ready. He is afraid, but the united voice of the Corn Mothers echos in his mind. "Is the land still ochu?" He must stay so others can emerge from the sipapu.

The earth had been shaking for months. It was a sign they all knew; the end of the Baktun signaled change. But still they fought their petty battles. A young warrior crouched among undergrowth as the marriage party worked its way from Calakmul, then the ground below him heaved and pitched him into the air. The air itself seemed to scream in pain, and a column of black ash towered in the south.

He landed on his feet in time to see the guards with the wedding party bolt. He snatched the promised bride by the arm and dragged her into the trees. She would be his to trade--if there was anyone left to buy.

Ishmael, despite barely surviving his last trip, ships out again. "No whaling for me anymore. It's too accursed dangerous." As the ship clears Delaware Bay and sets full sail, he glimpses something on a rocky island. "It can't be!" he exclaims, rubbing his eyes, but it is. A mermaid. With a comb and a looking-glass.

Pssst - people, I think we are just supposed to give the setting, then the next person can put the characters into it. Give the setting with no characters in it. :)

Angelo did not dare to wave to her as he steered his ship to sea. His head was fixed to the waves before him, but his liquid dark eyes slid sideways to check out how her shapely body showed dimly through the thin cotton of her dress. One day - maybe today, if the catch was good - he would bring home enough money to buy her a golden gown, and finally Julia would deign to look back into his eyes.

Carter kicked the door open with his boot. "Damn fool woman," he muttered, "needs to look where she's going with her bowls of soup. Fuck." He stripped off his shirt, a mess of colour now, and bent to pull his boots off. He peeled his tight jeans down his legs and threw the lot into a washing machine and slammed the door. He stood naked by the machine, willing it to work, then ripped open the door. "Fuck, no coin in my pockets? Jesus wept."

Carter took his ten buck note to the counter. "You got any change?"

Billy looked up at him. "Maybe...."
