Personally, I'm no fan of incest.
However, I think the answer to your question is that incest is illegal in most of the western world.
Therefore there seems little point in pretending that it's a Good Thing and therefore OK to portray it.

If an organisation can close a school or cause real trouble to an business just because the head honcho of said organisation thinks it's a Bad Thing, it strikes me that the whole matter is an issue of taste, as well as the Law.

Real incest porn is illegal in the US. Ton of it out of Europe though, I should say alleged, who really knows for sure.

I never watched it, but I heard in the series Nip Tuck(HBO?) The MC was screwing his mother-or step mother.

They also at one point in Dexter made it look as if he were fooling around his sister who then turned out to only be half sister or something like that.

What's hilariously hypocritical is the condemnation of incest fantasies, but they are everywhere including mainstream and people might say "oh, that's sick" but they are watching. I was an adult and gone from home when my youngest sister was born. I never met her till two years ago. Genetic Sexual Attraction is a documented thing.

I think the taboo breaking kink is stronger in the opposite direction, siblings or a parent/child getting together even though the Westermarck effect should be in, well, full effect.

But a GSA story is certainly more realistic.

Both of the brother/sister stories I have up depend on GSA. I consider it to be "incest lite" but the readers don't seem to have trouble with it.

I suspect that GSA is actually social rather than genetic and comes about because the adults involved want to build a relationship that they didn't have earlier in life. When adults look for relationships, sex can be part of it.

Nip/Tuck also had a story line where the adult son was having sex with a girl, only to find out that it was his sister. They both freaked out and decided not to tell the dad (one of the main characters of the show)

There was also a mother/daughter duo who had sex with people together.

On Boardwalk Empire, there was a flashback of a college aged guy having sex with his mother. The set-up was straight out of an erotic story, where first he defended her from some guy, then they go back to his dorm, she's drunk, and they had sex. Really great show, one of the best.
