What happened to all of the doom and gloom economic threads?

Comparing our defense needs to those of other countries is a great big non sequitur.

Why would we pay attention to the habits and attitudes of other countries when we were founded as the exception to and the haven from the habits and attitudes of other countries?

If we wish to explore the benefits and strengths of the different views and methods of Statism, then we should look to Europe and the power of the State, but if we wish to explore the benefits and strengths of the different forms of Individual Liberty, then we should look to our own states strengthened by the lack of powers of a limited Federal Government.

Yes it is. You need to get a clue.

Yeah, *I* need a clue.

Tell us all.
Why do we need a military budget that's more than six times the number two spot on the list? Especially considering the national debt that the right seems to suddenly be so concerned over after voting to raise it more than half a dozen times in the Previous administration.

I'll spot you your goto bullshit answer:
We have obligations to protect other countries because of treaties that were signed.
So we tell them they have to foot the bill for our continued protection, at least partially. Why should I be asked to fund protective services for another country when that money could be put to use helping our own citizens or paying off the debt we've incurred playing at being the world's police officer? Especially since we could put a huge dent in the national debt by doing so in a relatively short amount of time.

If you were actually serious about the national debt and deficits you would be looking at security discretionary spending (which has skyrocketed to 175% of what it was in 2001) instead of just mandatory spending (medicare, Social Security, medicaid, and Veterans benefits).

You would also be looking at the fact that federal revenue has fallen through the floor to near-historic lows. As a percentage of GDP, it's fallen 24 percent since 2001, and if you correct for inflation, the government is collecting nearly 20 percent less per person than it was a decade ago. But don't you DARE talk about removing those tax cuts that were supposed to be temporary and added a boat load to our debt.

kind of early to be dipping into the obama juice today? then again, last night was kind of ugly for you obama lovers. did you watch Chris Mathews? he blasted obama!!!

My COUNTRY is MORE BUSYBODY than anyone would care to admit!

Its now becoming more obvious

IGNORE BUSYBODY AT YOUR OWN PERIL

DANA MILBANK: “A familiar air of indecision preceded President Obama’s pep talk to the nation.”

Plus this: “It’s not exactly fair to blame Obama for the rout: Almost certainly, the markets ignored him. And that’s the problem: The most powerful man in the world seems strangely powerless, and irresolute, as larger forces bring down the country and his presidency. . . . That is the enduring mystery of Obama’s presidency. He delivered his statement on the economy beneath a portrait of Abraham Lincoln, but that was as close as he came to forceful leadership.” It’s as if, in some sort of national spasm of carelessness and self-deceit, we elected a guy entirely unqualified by experience or personal characteristics to the single most important office in the land, to serve during a period of unusual troubles that he was not equipped to address.

Nice to see that even the press is starting to notice.

UPDATE: Obama In The Headlights.

ANOTHER UPDATE: Is Obama Smart?

Plus: Obama’s penchant for speeches now sounding hollower by the word. I’m definitely sensing a shift in the tone here. . . .

Hey, they once loved Jimmy Carter, too. Until they didn’t. But, as is worth repeating, at this point a Carter rerun is a best-case scenario.

Oh............Poor poor O'Fendy, uspet a BUSYBODY for speaking the TRUTH

But when we see this

We must be CIVIL, right, O'Fendy?

Obama-Linked Dem Strategist: We Have To “Kill Romney”…

New tone!

(Politico) – Barack Obama’s aides and advisers are preparing to center the president’s re-election campaign on a ferocious personal assault on Mitt Romney’s character and business background, a strategy grounded in the early stage expectation that the former Massachusetts governor is the likely GOP nominee.

The dramatic and unabashedly negative turn is the product of political reality. Obama remains personally popular, but pluralities in recent polling disapprove of his handling of his job and Americans fear the country is on the wrong track. His aides are increasingly resigned to running for re-election in a glum nation. And so the candidate who ran on “hope” in 2008 has little choice four years later but to run a slashing, personal campaign aimed at disqualifying his likeliest opponent.

In a move that will make some Democrats shudder, Obama’s high command has even studied President Bush’s 2004 takedown of Sen. John F. Kerry, a senior campaign adviser told POLITICO, for clues on how a president with middling approval ratings can defeat a challenger.

“Unless things change and Obama can run on accomplishments, he will have to kill Romney,” said a prominent Democratic strategist aligned with the White House.

The onslaught would have two aspects. The first is personal: Obama’s re-elect will portray the public Romney as inauthentic, unprincipled and, in a word used repeatedly by Obama’s advisers in about a dozen interviews, “weird.”

Seemingly Unaware The Unemployment Rate Has Skyrocketed Since He Took Office: Obama Says Creating Jobs “Not Rocket Science”…

He should have prefaced it by saying “to everyone but me.”

(Washington Examiner) — Barack Obama attended a high dollar fundraiser last night after the stock market lost over 600 points in daily trading, but he didn’t demonstrate the panic that struck Wall Street that day.

“Markets will go up and down, but the underlying challenges have held steady for too long,” he said at an outreach event at the St. Regis Hotel.

“This is not rocket science in terms of how we can create more jobs in this country,” he said at a fundraiser where tickets cost $15,000 per family.

When faced with irrefutable fact, that our defense spending is more than 6 times that of the number two spot (who coincidentally is named as the bogey-man of the year, China), ignore it and go for the personal attack. One that's just as misinformed as your other opinions by the way.

Typical. You should stick to C&P bullshit from right wing blogs. At least then you can claim that it wasn't YOU who said whatever stupid shit that gets thrown in your face, you simply repeated it. As if that makes a difference.

Yeah, *I* need a clue.

"On Thursday, in honor of Barack Obama's 50th birthday, the Dow dropped ten points for every year he has walked among us. It was the ninth largest drop in history. We should be relieved he wasn't turning eighty. The markets are apparently concerned that the entire global economy may be 'stalling.' You don't say? Observant fellows, these market chappies. ... Under the 'historic' 'resolution' of the debt crisis (and don't those very words 'debt crisis' already feel so last week?), America will be cutting federal spending by $900 billion over ten years. 'Cutting federal spending by $900 billion over ten years' is Washington-speak for increasing federal spending by $7 trillion over ten years. And, as they'd originally planned to increase it by eight trillion, that counts as a cut. If they'd planned to increase it by $20 trillion and then settled for merely $15 trillion, they could have saved five trillion. See how easy this is? As part of this historic 'cut,' we've now raised the 'debt ceiling' -- or, more accurately, lowered the debt abyss. Do you ever discuss the debt with your neighbor? Do you think he has any serious intention to repay the 15 trillion racked up in his and your name? Does your congressman? Does your senator? Look into their eyes. You can see the answer. And, if none of these parties seem inclined to pay down the debt now, what are the chances they'll feel like doing so by 2020 when, under these historic 'cuts,' it's up to 23-25 trillion?" --columnist Mark Steyn

I've got a great idea on how to solve the debt crisis.

Lets send additional tax - riders to everyone who voted for the Obama spending plan...everyone who voted democrat (and therefore for additional spending) can pay the bill for the spending that they wanted.
