It hasn't even been 24 hours yet and I got 400+ reads on a poem at another story & poetry site. :)

The same poem here might fetch about 200 reads ..... over the span of 6 months. :(

What can WE personally do to bypass the combined obstacle that is Lit's structural design and absence of TAGS in order to encourage and increase poetry readership over here?

Perhaps TOKUQINN could show some man cleavage during his YouTube recitals?

So this is where you are hanging out at. :)

I would hang out at the forum of the other establishment, but I'm afraid I would end up registering a few more accounts just to have a conversation with myself.

Well, if it'll make you feel any better, i liked the dixie dykes so much i read it twice. But it might be better if toq reads it on youboob.

Thanks for the read.

And I can just picture him now.

Hi Mag,
When there is a (administrative) will there is a (administrative) way.
Is there such a thing in here?
I mean Tsotha and I had discussed the topic of tags for instance and he made an enquiry some months ago. I don't think he has received an answer yet.
I am particular about tags because the whole structure of my songs/poems depends on them otherwise they appear as isolated items which they are not meant to be.
Also the "visual appeal" of texts is very poor in my opinion. Why can we not enrich texts visually with fonts and colors and bells and whistles according to our imagination and purposes?
About a month ago I submitted an acrostic and I made the first letter of every line bold and twice the normal size. It was rejected at first with the indication that we can make letters bold but we cannot change their sizes. So I complied with this requirement and the acrostic was accepted but I thought that this exercise was a little silly and time wasting whereas it did not help at all the general look of my acrostic.
Why should there be a "unified look" in so many thousands of diverge pieces of non prose writing. I just don't understand.
I am sure that you have more specific points in mind, so fire away.

Lit is an old site that according to Laurel is undertaking a major overhaul in the software coding. It could be months to years before those TAGS manifest. I don't know if the ability to customize the appearance of poems and stories or even self edit them is even in the pipeline.

Lit hardly registers on Google's radar for basic search terms like erotic poetry, erotic poems, sex poems, etc. It does well regarding searches for erotic and sex stories.

So, most new people who come to Lit do so from Google for the stories. However, there is nothing to encourage them to wander into the poetry sections.

We'd actually have to write stories in order to have story readers crossover through our profiles.

Our only other alternative is to somehow send visitors or draw surfers into Literotica ourselves.

Or, just not care that our work hardly gets any reads here and focus on critiquing each other.

And ...... just to clarify, this thread isn't about me bitching that my stuff isn't being read.

Because it is being read. It is being read at several other poetry & story sites. It is being read in my forum where I warehouse all of it. It is being read at other forums. It is being read on my personal website.

It is hardly being read here.

Literotica is the most prominent sex story and erotic poetry site in CyberSpace. When it comes to site design and search engine presence, it is the least dominant in regards to poetry. The ball has been and continues to be dropped on the webmastering side of the equation.

This thread is about what can be done on our behalf to pick up the ball and run with it.

And who is going to do that on our behalf?
I like the title of your thread.
"dead poetry society" !
I had thought something similar in the past
"mutual admiration society"
"mutual amputation society"
and so on…

To me poetry is almost a dead horse but I keep flogging it cause I'm an almost necrophiliac

Well, at the very least, we might come up with some cool poem titles.

IDEA #1

I already do this.

You can do it as well.

And even some of the story writers could benefit from this.

At Pinterest.com, create a board(s) with your poetry ( or shorty short short stories ).

All you have to do is

1) transfer the text onto a background image ( I use Photoshop )
2) make sure your name as the author is included
3) upload to your board(s)
4) add a brief description

and the most important step

5) link the image to your submissions page here at Literotica

Here is an example, which links back to my personal website.

http://www.pinterest.com/pin/558376053774051739/

A pin is a traffic doorway to your submissions page. If it is re-pinned by someone else, another doorway opens up. The better the poem and the more pleasing to the eye the image is, the more likely said pin will be re-pinned.

As you can see, my poetry pins for the moment are quite generic and booooooring. This is from the 2nd batch I've uploaded, replacing an earlier experimental batch.

The only drawback is that you can not delete what has been re-pinned by someone else. So, it is best to upload writes that are final and typo free.

An added benefit of uploading poems in the form of images to Pinterest is that these can end up in Google Image Search.

You can also get readers from Google Text Search if your Pinterest images, boards or home page are included in search results.

Three things to remember:

1. Poetry is only read by other poets.

2. Laurel is the person to address, about changes in the structure of the poetry forums.

3. There is nothing Laurel can do about number 1.

1. Is simply not true.

2. I'm not advocating any changes to the structure of the forums or the other side of the site.

3. See 2 and 1.

4. This thread is essentially about bypassing Literotica altogether in an attempt to get more readers into the poetry sections of Literotica.

EDIT

5. I'm multi-tasking and accomplishing a few other things left unsaid in the process.

I understand and sympathize with your efforts, but number 1 remains quite true.

Well, let's take it for granted your #1 is true.

1. Poetry is only read by other poets.

That just means there could be more poets coming to Literotica to read poetry, but they ain't.

Or they are, but they can't easily find what they like to read.

Or, both.

Now 550+ reads in almost 48 hours.

I have a Pinterest account for writing and other adult things, mostly when planning a story I get my ideas together, outlines, images for characters, setting and other research (which I do recommend to other writers as well). But most of what I have on Pinterest is set on private viewing Your idea is another good thing to add for public pins. A writer/poet would have to warn the links go to an adult website. It would be all right to do this? I know a lot of other social networking isn't XXX adult friendly.

I'd have to look at Pinterest ToS to see I guess.

I agree that

"Literotica is the most prominent sex story and erotic poetry site in CyberSpace."

I would love to see the poets here be launched into deserved prominence. I read a lot of poetry. I frequent readings by the most lauded poets of this and many other countries. Lit poets have occasionally risen to that exalted level of refinement and flame. I have always wanted that to be legitimately recognized.

Pinning photographic porn is disallowed. Pinning photographic nudity that is not overly sexualized is allowed. You can therefore link to certain adult sites. Literotica is mainly a written pornography site. You should be able to link to it without consequence.

To be on the safe side, you can always create an alternate account.

I don't put warnings on my pins that are linked to my personal website. I do use honest descriptions that paint an accurate representation of what the pin is linked to. My poetry pins have the URL of my personal website on them for anyone that wants to do a search on the domain name prior to entering.

a portion of views in poetry is to actually laugh at them, because, well they are laughable (think serial submitters of brain farts here), but the joke gets old, they move on

and since poetry is too short for wanker material, unless you are some short comming anon. you lose that traffic

besides what good is it to have 10,000 views and five intelligent comments? it is not like we can attach adverts to generate a revenue stream, and if so half of the poem would have SHOCKING NEW in the title.

as in SHOCKING NEW EROTIC PORN POEM as read on youtube, and it is the same old alien anal probe hitting a prostate gland shit

I won't stand for this.

The masses should be exposed to my genius.

Poetry for the masses?
Should be about passing genes over rather than genius.
(many instances of genes passed over can generate genius sometimes)
