The beautiful and talented Joan Fontaine was cast in Hitchcock's film Suspicion as a 'plain but wealthy woman' upon whom Cary Grant's character seemingly plays his confidence tricking ways. She won the Academy Award for Best Actress for this role in 1941, the only performance Oscar for a Hitchcock film.
 
Portraying glamour and elegance, pearls were regularly worn by Hollywood movie stars both on and off set in the 1900’s-50’s. Requiring high visual impact, silent films would often feature elaborate strands of white pearls.
