A question for anyone who knows the answer...

Something i've been idly wondering about in the series "Stargate:Atlantis" the vests the characters use to hook their P90's to what are they called? or is it something created by the show? Because i seem to remember a similar device being used on one of those discovery channel gun shows.

If it matters, every time there is a protracted shooting war, the troops on ground tend to modify or experiment with issue kit to 'improve' it. Sometimes they succeed, sometimes it gets adopted for official kit. Similar rigs have been tried for other types of submachine guns and rifles.

In most cases those vests are what the layman might call a bulletproof vest. They aren't really bulletproof, but more bullet resistant. The vest are made from Kevlar and usually have ceramic plates covering the vital organs.

In the cast of Stargate the ceramic plates were replaced with a new type of plate that was resistant to the staff weapons of the J'ffa.
