I'm just kidding. As if anyone gives a flying fk after the first time it happens. Especially on a long piece of fiction. When will these twats learn, no one cares?

Why'd you start a thread about it then, Jase, if it doesn't bother you?

Ah. Good question, sahib.

Because I am just fascinated by the mentality of someone who would head to the end of a 13 page story about someone struggling with their identity to the point of considering taking their own life, to troll it.

But, you know they didn't read it, right?

Yes, I know that. If they had, they've have been left euphoric, maybe slightly irritated at all the errors, but not in the mood to 1-bomb. They'd have seen that there's love in this world for everyone. Even the ones who live under bridges and dine primarily on goat.

I got one thing for you, my sweet, sweet troll. A fucking hug. Come get it. If you need help, PM me, I won't judge. Let's deal with your issues, eh? This is a one-time offer.

Bah, this is just another attempt at self promotion. So sick of these whinge threads.

Oh my days, I am AGHAST at that suggestion. I would never, never, ever!

Just wait until the story is out of the headlines, send Laurel an email and ask her to sweep the story for you. It works wonders, trust me, but it may take a week for the request for a sweep to happen. Just know this, when it’s swept like this, bogus 5* ratings can be removed just as easily as 1*’s.

Let me go give you a 5*’s🌹Kant👠👠👠 however, it may take me about a week to read all 13 pages

Yeah sweeps take care of it. That's why trollfiend needs a hug. Their chosen work is pointless - I was taught to be kind to bullies. Inside every bully is usually a sexually frustrated knobend.

Also, thankyou. :p

I like the cut of your jib!

There was a time I dominated the top rated Literotica stories of all time list.

No, really.

It was a short time, though, made shorter by 1-star bombers.

Do you think they give themselves cutsey names like 'The Uni-star Bomber' or 'Trollazar of Literotica'?

Hey, you missed a couple

You know this thread is going to make the troll feel like he got the best of you, right?

You know this thread is going to earn you more bombs, right?

End of the day I look at trolls in two ways, depending on the mood of the moment. I either laugh at them because they're showing how pathetic they are that doing this gives them some type of empowerment

Or I feel bad for them for the same reason. Like I said it depends on my mood.

98% of the time I'm laughing

Some days I just want to watch them waste their time.

I go write. They click buttons. Which one of us is more satisfied? Their button clicking ain't getting them laid.;)

I'm bringing up this perspective...

Because I got told off by a reader earlier about this.

On a regular basis, I make comments in my Author's Notes about my general disdain for trolls and what they do, ranging from 'meh' to amusement. Entirely possible this very statement in my notes attracts and activates trolls (mole trolls/troll moles... tromollos), but I don't much care. True, it's vaguely annoying to see my scores plummet before rising up to where I expect them to be, but there IS an irritation at never knowing where my score could be, because of troll activity.

But then one apparently 'long-time and very loyal reader' (long-term might be a little much, I've only been here since mid '15) PM'd me and gave me something of a talking to about my blase and rather flippant attitude toward trolls.

Why? Because I wasn't taking into consideration how the trolls affected the enjoyment of my other readers. I admit, I'd never really thought of it that way before, but he was determined to make this case.

"You've got over twenty-four hundred followers, and I'll bet ninety-nine percent of them are actual fans, who vote for your works; then we get upset when we see the trolls maligning you and dropping your scores, because it means that our scores don't count as much as they should have!"

Now he also said that there wasn't much I could do about it (I'm guessing her doesn't know about asking for sweeps), but he did make me consider for a moment that it's entirely possible one's readership is somehow adversely affected by trolls. If we all love a movie, we hate seeing shitheads give is a sucky rating on Rotten Tomatoes or whatever, and we get defensive about it, because it's OUR thing that we enjoy.

So he's kinda got a point there.

Sure, they're all here consuming free erotic product, but even so, people like what they like, and having it maligned is irksome. I told him I was flattered about his concern with my work and pleased that it meant enough to him that he was defensive of it. He had indeed given me a perspective that, had I thought about it in terms of my own fandoms, I would have identified with instantly. Trolls wreck things for everyone, author and reader alike in many cases.

So, that being said, I guess I'll try and be a little more mindful of my so-called 'fans' in my Author's Notes. I'll retain my contempt for trolls, but perhaps use less provocative language.

My reply here is not meant to be some deep pontification on a subject that just about every author will treat with a different degree of seriousness, I really just wanted to say 'Hey, guys, a reader sent me this, it's a new perspective for me!'.

It's as simple as that. It made me smile, to be honest. Hopefully it'll make a few others here smile too.

And fuck the trolls. With a sandpaper dildo. Laced with sriracha.

BH out!

They fuck with everyone. It makes no difference what your attitude is. Mine is best described as 'fuck ya maaate'. Ciggy butt brained Trollazar clearly wants more attention than mummy could spare.

They're like the genital lice of creative endeavour. But in almost every case their action is counter productive to their aim. A bunch of troll comments attract attention. Curiosity. If the comment is the usual slack jawed drivel, it may even encourage someone to read it. Ditto low scores. I click on them to see why they were trolled so hard and have found some good fiction that way. Which gets my 5, all ready for that magical sweeping moment.

Ignore the naysayers and butthurts. Get up and try again!

Move forward again w/that story I have to write!"

But do you really want the other authors here to see you, like this?!

:Dsorry, I had to. A Rocky Horror reference first thing in the morning makes me smile.

Click a button= ruin someone else’s day... LoL

I envision them as basement dwellers: jobless, fat, bald headed, 40+ year olds who live at home with the parents empowered with a keyboard- tuff guy attitude. Clicking a 1*on someone’s story more than likely gives them a hard - on since they aren’t getting laid in the real world. Whatever their “psychological reasoning” behind it is, names like Dive Bomber, H8er gator, and blue ball the troll seem to fit them. 🌹Kant👠👠👠

Technical question

Maybe it should be obvious, but . . .

I can see the overall score and the number of people who voted. How do you see the actual number of one-star, two-star, etc., votes?

In the first 12 hours of posting a story, you can see each vote get placed. Usually goes like this.

The first 5 x 5* are usually regulars who follow your work.

Then your score drops to 4.33. A bit of quick maths tells you 25 +1 = 26 / 6 = 4.33'

You quickly learn to tell when you're being bombed, and you learn what the 'average' reader thinks of your work. Trolls drop 3s, 2s and 1s, to keep your stores under 4.5, in order to discourage reads. But if they cock up, and push it too low, it's a) fucking obvious - like when Pilot posts something and it's a 4 - it's obvious he's being trolled, and b) it's intriguing. The average story on Lit rates from 4.2 upwards. Under that is either clearly being trolled, or has major issues with it, usually technical or content issues.

After you've posted 40+ stories, you get a feel for where you sit in terms of what the community you write for thinks of your work, yeah? So, when you see those numbers, you know they're anomalous.

This is why it's so fucking pointless. Anyone with a shred of brain matter can decide what they like for themselves. You can see numbers being boosted or diminished. So why. fucking. bother?

I know the idea is to either create insecurity (good fucking luck, as I say, after the first one, everyone's wise to it, so it doesn't have an effect - plus, one key troll's already admitted fucking with the comp numbers, so... there's no reason for anyone to feel like a failure on here for not winning a comp, knowing it's being manipulated), or to keep new writers out of the 'top' lists.

But... who cares? There's no prize. There's no cash incentive. The fact the trolling is so consistent and so constant, makes it irrelevant. It loses its power to harm. It's now just a mild annoyance, if that, and a waste of some poor fuck's time.

Now, granted, there are some authors on here who do make a living from sales, for whom Lit Cred might help boost those sales. But really... people like the weirdest shit. And they'll find that shit by looking for it. And if there's enough audience for your particular shit, you can make a living from it. If there's not, then it doesn't matter how many competitions you win, you won't get sales.

So, to me, trolling down EVERY SINGLE story, or bashing anything with gay male material in it, has only one effect. It makes me feel special. Someone noticed me. Awwww.

I know there are trolls who form long-term strategies to, lol, in their own heads 'destroy' certain writers. They do this by following them, and over time, ensuring their work never hits 4.5. But, again, it's so obvious, it can't affect a writer's self esteem. Like troll comments... they're never clever or insightful or cutting. They're just... the verbal equivalent of someone spitting on your shoes. Who looks feral, you or the person who communicates by spitting?

Does that answer your question in long-form, someone might have had too much caffeine today whoops I wrote an essay... form? :D

Mr Bombastic-Fantastic, cumming to you live from his webcam, via his own hand!

I bet you they're the ones repeatedly reading the humiliation stories, frantically beating off while whispering, 'I'll show you, mummy, I'll show you!'

I have published ten chapters now and all have been rated within a range of 4.2 - 4.52 Each has received a 1* rating within the first few votes. As has been said it's obvious when it happens, your story is on say 4.33 from 3 ratings ( A 5 and two 4's) then it drops to 3.5 as the 1* hits before gradually coming back up.

That tells me that it is the same person doing it, and also that they must be actively watching for a new post, so quite possibly a follower. If it occurs further on of course the effect is far less dramatic. You might be on for example 4.4 from 20 ratings, so a total of 88 votes. A 1* goes in at this point and you drop to 4.23. It's still significant of course as it is going to take a straight six 5* ratings to get you back to where you were.

This does mean though that the 1* loonies are identifiable simply because their rating is going to be so out of kilter with all the rest. It's only really worth them giving a 1* or a 2* because anything else has so little effect. My guess is that they always go for a 1* anyway.

Not always. A clever little maths troll will use threes and twos to get the numbers to where they need to be, in the hopes they won't get swept.

But think about the effort that takes. Would it not be more fun to, I don't know, watch some porn? Watch a crime docco? Talk to a friend... oh. Oh. Yes, good point. Not all options are available to all folks.

Which is why I offer a Troll Lovin' service, where I will send a kind message to any troll who pledges me fifty of your US dollars. Find me on Patreon. Once I create a Patreon.
