Science has found the source. Skein's glands. Just like the variance in other glands in people it varies from person to person how much they produce, when, and why. There's a wide variance between dry mouth, mouth watering, and drooling.

There is no reservoir and there doesn't need to be a reservoir. The tissue is quite permeable and has quite a bit of capacity. One does not need a reservoir to drool or spit, either.

Squirting that you see on pornos is not squirting that probably is urine or they've simply fill themselves with water or whatever.

It isn't buckets, but just like drool, the amount can at times be copious. There are lots of nooks and crannies for that to build up in.

I would imagine that in some people there may be some accompanying discharge of urine but I have not experienced that. Urine is pretty distinctive and identifiable. Not having any degree in, or exposure to, medical anatomy beyond high school, I've always wondered if it's possibly related to amniotic fluid in some manner. Which might be why science can't figure it out.

In men, it's not because we've trained ourselves to hold it, the prostate acts as a valve, and only allows urine or semen, but not both at the same time. It's also why men can have to piss like a racehorse, but have sex, but can't piss for a few minutes afterward in spite of the completely full bladder. Women on the other hand can piss during sex, as there's no mechanism (no prostate) other than them holding it to prevent pissing.
