There is this decent guy that has a friend that is not so nice - he appears to be in the Mafia. The friend has to leave the country for several years (I think it was seven). He asks the decent guy to watch his submissive girlfriend while he's gone. The last thing the friend tells the girl is to do everything the decent guy says. Decent guy then basically transforms the girl, and they develop feelings for each other. At the end of the seven years, decent guy makes an offhand comment about how he wishes the Mafia friend would die - then she could stay with him. Mafia friend calls, and wants the girl back. She leaves. Decent guy doesn't know what to do. Later, the girl comes back to his place. Decent guy finds out that Mafia friend died under mysterious circumstances. He asks, "Why?" I remember her answer included that when Mafia guy left, he told her to do whatever decent guy said.

I think this might have been called seven years but my search for that hasn't worked.
