A Review for The Mechanic!

This is the second great review for The Mechanic, my first e-book. This one's from Manic Readers:

http://manicreaders.com/index.cfm?disp=reviews&bookid=2301

Alexis' lifelong dream was to own an auto shop. After her parents die, she is left money and the first thing she does with it is buy the auto shop. The business starts to take off and she finds herself in need of a mechanic. Vince and Alexis have been attracted to each other since the day they met while literally bumping into one another outside the auto shop. Over time the attraction toward each other has grown stronger. When Vince breaks up with his girlfriend, he stays longer than usual working on the cars. He feels he has nothing to go home to. Is this finally the time both Vince and Alexis can enter into a serious relationship and if so, for how long?

Alexis was a very passionate and strong woman who didn't need a man but wanted one in particular. Vince was the epitome of sex personified. The relationship between these two characters left me breathless and wanting more. From the daydreaming scenes to the humor, The Mechanic caught my interest and kept it there. I found myself turning pages faster than I could read. The characters of Alexis and Vince were very believable, exciting and enjoyable. Vivian Vincent did an outstanding job with The Mechanic. There was a perfect weave of humor and passion throughout the book. I really felt connected to the characters which is usually very hard for me to do in a short story. The ending couldn't have been more perfect! I would definitely recommend this book and I feel that I absolutely must read another book written by the very talented writer Ms. Vivian Vincent.

Nicely done. Congratulations.

A Programmer's Ganbit is now live in Fictionwise. Terrie did another nice cover for the novel.

MR Review
Shelter From The Storm
by Molly Wens

Carissa James is a television station executive, with two small children and an alarming ex-husband. While on a business trip, a series of misfortunes find her lost in the wilderness and on the verge of death. Determined to survive, she perseveres through a winter storm and stumbles upon safety when all hope seems lost.

Bryce Matheney is a scarred and bitter loner, who has retreated to a solitary mountain cabin. He is determined to live out his life away from the world that so cruelly judged him, but he can’t outrun his memories. His horror at his own actions haunts him more profoundly than the censure of strangers ever could.

When he finds Carissa injured and sick, stranded in the middle of a blizzard, he doesn’t dream how much his life is about to change. As he nurses her back to health, Bryce slowly learns to trust again, but he knows she must leave when the winter ends to rejoin her family. Can Bryce find the strength to let her go? And when danger threatens Carissa and the children she loves, can Bryce face down his demons to save the woman he loves – even if it means rejoining the world he left behind?

Shelter from the Storm is the tale of two damaged people, who find love in the most unlikely of circumstances. I loved this book! It was well written, with incredible characterization, and an exciting plot. Carissa was wonderful – spunky, willing to take a chance despite her past, and too stubborn to quit even when Bryce clung stubbornly to past pain. Bryce was also fantastic – a strong alpha male, wounded, but desperate for love, and ultimately willing to climb back down into hell (or is that finally climb out of it) for his woman. The sex sizzled and the romance would make anyone want a mountain man of their own. I highly recommend this story to anyone who loves romance.

I have my latest novel, Bondage House, up in A1AdultEBooks. Bondage House is HARD CORE, with a great many different sexual scenes using kidnapped girls. The bondage house is run by Captain 30, the villian of Pirates of The Keys.

Bondage House is already selling well in A1AdultEBooks.

MAID FOR EACH OTHER
by Vivian Vincent

Martin Simms, a lonely businessman, meets and falls in love with a hotel maid. Mia Barelli finds, after accepting a dinner invitation with the irresistable Martin, that she feels the same-but there’s just one little problem. She’s already engaged.

Mia tries to resist their passionate connection, but is unable to say no to Martin. What is she going to do about her fiance, though? A heartfelt goodbye letter later, Martin may accept that Mia has moved on...but he can’t seem to stop loving her.

And when Mia’s sister steps in to try to "fix" things, more complications arise....

Read an excerpt:

Martin finished his breakfast and paid his bill. He slipped a large tip to Leona and then kissed her cheek softly before heading back up to his room. He saw Mia's cart in the hallway in front of his room. He approached slowly, not wanting to interrupt her job or anything else she may be doing in his room.

He peeked inside his room and saw his bed was made. He heard Mia humming quietly and when she emerged from the bathroom, she was startled to see him standing in the doorway.

"Oh! Mr. Simms, I didn't see you there!" She gasped as she ran right into him, nearly knocking him off his feet.

"Call me Martin." He smiled warmly at her. She didn't make eye contact with him and he could tell she was trembling. "Everything okay?"

"Yes, Mr. Sim--Martin. Everything's fine. I'll just finish up and get out of your way, sir." She pushed past him and out to her cart.

"You won't be in the way, Mia. I've got some work to do on my computer. Take your time." He crossed the room toward the couch, turned to look at her and their eyes locked. He felt his heart begin to beat faster and he clenched his fists at his sides. Breaking eye contact with her, he turned and took a few more steps to the couch, then picked up his laptop and sat down.

He could still feel her eyes on him. He glanced up to look at her again and she turned away quickly, walking to the cart outside the room and placing the dirty towels in the canvas bag hooked to the side of the cart.

She bent over to grab fresh towels off the bottom shelf of the cart and she heard Martin gasp. Bringing herself upright and turning to look at him, she noticed he was standing an arm's length away from her.

"Never, ever bend over like that in front of me again." Martin reached out and pulled her to him, causing her to drop the clean towels to the floor. He brought his lips down to hers, brushing against them softly before placing one hand on the back of her neck and pulling her in for a deeper kiss.

Martin could feel Mia's restraint as his tongue teased her lips. She let out a quiet moan and when she did, he plunged his tongue into her mouth. She responded to his kiss by running her hands up his chest and around his neck.

Their tongues danced together as the kiss ignited the fire between them. After several seconds, she pushed him away, her breathing ragged and her heart beating furiously. As his breathing returned to normal, he released his grip before he spoke.

"Have dinner with me." His voice was raspy with desire.

"I--I can't," she stammered, her body still trembling from the most amazing kiss she’d ever experienced.

Mia pushed him away further then bent to pick up the towels she'd dropped. When she stood upright, she locked eyes with Martin again. She could see the desire in his eyes and it caused her heart to beat even faster than it already was. Clutching the towels tightly, she pushed past him and into the bathroom.

Alessia and I got a nice review on our latest from The Romance Studio...

http://theromancestudio.com/reviews/reviews/atfirstbriobelegon.htm

At First -- Washington D.C.
Alessia Brio and Will Belegon
Paranormal erotic romance
Available from Phaze
ISBN: 978-1-60659-096-6
December 2008

At First -- Washington D.C. is the story behind Alessia Brio and Will Belegon's story, ArtiFactual. Set before the foundation of the Erotique Mystique, Senor Eduardo "Eddie" Rojas Aguilar is a young archeology student. Wandering the streets of D.C., he literally plows into Vivian Long and fireworks ensue. What is it about tall, dark, and mysterious that has Vivian so wound up? What's the spark in her touch, and why can't Eduardo seem to tell the woman, no? Why is he attracted to such a forward woman?

Attraction at first sight or is it love? Either way, Brio and Belegon know how to keep the intensity at the forefront. From Eddie and Vivian's first encounter to the chain of events that Vivian allows, and sometimes orchestrates, to draw them along and together, the chemistry between the characters is amazing. Not having read ArtiFactual, I'm not sure of this story's meaning, but I found At First stands well on its own. I love the concept of different personalities and instant attraction, and found the authors have an uncanny way to make it real. I enjoyed being drawn and made privy to the character's thoughts. Nice romantic elements and intense sex make this story one hot read.

Overall rating: 4 Hearts
Sensuality rating: Explicit

Very nice, Bel. Congrats!

This may be the wrong place to post this, and if so I apologize. I have been a fan of Lit, and writing, for many years (despite the "member date" of this screen name here).

I've read some pages about publishing online, E-books, self-publishing, and have checked out some web sites. It's been my dream since at least my teen years to "one day" become published. I figured now is the time to make it a reality.

What I am asking is, does anyone know if Lulu.com is a good site for self-publishing and/or can it be profitable and is it a good source for self-promotion? I first heard of that site here on Lit.

If it's not a good site, can anyone please help me out here and tell me of a good site for new up-and-coming authors? Preferably one where you don't have to pay the site for the "rights" to have your works there and in hopes of being "reimbursed" once you sell books.

Thank you in advance for any help/suggestions you can offer!

Lulu is a very good site for a self-publisher (who is technically savvy) to get his/her print-on-demand books set up with printing capability at minimal costs. Lulu has nothing to do with selling, really, though. The self-publisher has to get it sold completely him/herself. And that's the rub--because selling a book is a whole heck of a lot harder than either writing it or getting it printed.

You could consider submitting to a co-op like eXcessica. :D We offer print books (through CreateSpace, similar to Lulu but directly connected to Amazon and listed there) and ebooks, and the marketing part doesn't fall all on your own shoulders that way, since excessica's name and other authors promoting it, will help bring them to the site to see your work as well.

Thank you, both, for the wonderful info! I'll be sure to check out eXcessica. :)

Yep, any level of publisher that offers at least distribution through mega book-selling Web sites would be better than lulu if you didn't have your own distribution and marketing mechanism. Your book still won't be marketed well, so don't count on selling many books. People can't buy what they don't know about--and, contrary to the myth hinted at by self-publishing package services, buyers don't roam Web sites much in search of a book to buy.

If your book is erotica, you have some advantage, because this is an area where distribution is centralized and where there are some browsing buyers looking around for it.

Unless you get your book published by your uncle and give out fake naked pictures of your breast in return for good reviews on Amazon or something. And even then, alas, sales fall off when you put out nothing new for four years...

Poooooor Spoutrahhhhhh.... :D

Like I said - naked fake pictures of someone else's breast go a long way, huh, Viagra?

While I find train wrecks to be facinating to watch in progress. (said tongue in cheek) I wonder if this particular train wreck could just stay in one thread at Scouries)

I personally prefer this thread to be able to see the books that are available by the Lit Author's. I may not be one, but I enjoy reading those that are.

Ah, one self-published 312-page book four years ago. Ah, yes. I guess there wasn't room in your garage after self-buying enough books to get that Amazon ranking for you to try self-publishing again--or maybe even to attract a real publisher? Why four years without another one? The first one pretty much told you your writing was a losing proposition, I guess. Clear handwriting on the wall--if you'd been successful with the first one--obviously selling to someone other than yourself--there wouldn't be four years now with nothing else.

In my mainstream life, I have a book out on how (and how not) to get published. If you need help in moving from your current "how not" to "how," just let me know. First clue. The market for erotica really is in e-publishing, not print self-publishing. There's no extra magic in having it in print form (except tht it gets expensive if the only one who believes in your writing is yourself) :)

For Sadangel, who has a point and who posted as I was composing this. To get back on track, I'm happy to point to three launchings of mine (not written on top of the other--just finished off in submission close together):

Bitten Peach launched two weeks ago, a Orient-based GM antholgoy, currently at #5 for eXcessica best-sellers at Fictionwise (and #27 top bestseller of all anthologies/bundles at Allromanceebooks)

Deal Closer, launched this Monday, a GM novella, already at #3 for eXcessica best-sellers at Fictionwise.

And Blue Roses Tattoo, to launch this coming Monday, an M/F Romance novella.

Happy launching to any others that did so recently as well.

Oh plenty of real people bought my book. Also, some real people had sweet things to say about it. Like: "Sarah, I thought this book was fantastic. Read every word cover to cover. Graphic, but not offensive, and I think you displayed a wide array of knowledge and familiarity with sports, pop culture, history, art and so much more. It took me a while to get through all the book, but it was well worth it. A job well done and best of luck in the future. Jose Romero, Seattle Times Seahawks writer." That comment is over there at Amazon.com. You must know Jose. He's been on ESPN.
