I thought about posting about how surprised I was that no one had yet commented on Donald Glover/Childish Gambino's This is America video ... and then thought why not make a thread about music videos more generally. Partly because I love them, and partly because I know there's new stuff out there I'm not seeing.

But first a moment to appreciate what a piece of genius Glover's video is.

I suppose it confirms alt-right types that blacks are violent and criminal.

This video for the most part doesn't:

M.I.A, Born Free

(apparently banned on YouTube)

If you are redheaded, some Dave Mustaine might help you deal with the trauma of watching MIA's video.

It's a strange little insular universe that you live in.

You should hook up with beew - you both have a similar desire to not have to deal with anything that might disturb you idyllic view of life.

I guess you didn't see the Born Free video.

Saw them; like them.

Dude, I've posted a heap of things you decided to not look at while still contributing to whatever thread we were on.

So ... no. If you expect people to pay that much attention to your posts, give them the same respect.

I saw the video. I didn't think much of it. I, again, presume you didn't see Born Free.

I read your stuff, and that which I haven't read I will.

Don't assume that my reading your stuff necessitates agreement.

As for this thread, for me "cool" implies cool jazz.

I might try again ... it'd be cool to see actually different videos. I think Glover's is a bit of a masterpiece for technical reasons as well as the layers of meaning and his brilliant style ... putting together something like so as to appears as though it's just one take (I think it actually isn't it, but it's damn close) is a logistical feat in itself, and one I also appreciate - so much music video these days relies on a multitude of different bits of footage and editing tricks, it's refreshing to see something that really does just focus on the content and the 'performance', while not just being a performance video (which, let's face, is pretty boring 99.99% of the time).

You've literally said in the past 'I haven't read most of this thread' or 'I didn't bother reading the link you posted'.

Again, that's just performance ... the music might be cool (although I don't really like jazz), but the videos are ... well, just videos.

Ah. For me that's a good reason to watch it again.

You've literally said in the past 'I haven't read most of this thread' or 'I didn't bother reading the link you posted'.

Those threads are long, the abortion one full of links, and I said "I haven't" not "I won't"; and I'm not sure I posted " 'I didn't bother reading the link you posted'," though I guess that will be more reviewing for at least one of us. If I'm wrong, I'll likely mention it and link it from here.

Not much of a jazz fan myself, and the video aspect makes your thread more challenging.

Hmmmmmm.

This will be my last post for a few, maybe several, days but unlikely for this thread.

Good morning to all.

As for your post and links: granted, I haven't given them a thorough reading—not yet, but it seems to be a reiteration of previous points...,

Go read the contents from the links I posted first.

Your post is an insult and makes you sound ignorant and inhumane.

Read the damn links and then come back and reread your post.

If I wanted to read a bunch of links, I'd go to Wikipedia.

I think it was getting a bit heated there.

I haven't forgotten that thread.

The camera swings in 1:38 and 2:08 into the 4:04 video.

Breaks look easy in 3:01-3:02 and 3:44.

The main message to me, again, is that blacks are violent.

It's a performance

video with some effects chucked over it? Or am I

missing something?

Agreed; but still a good song. I thought he did all the vocals until I saw the video.

One of my

absolute favourites. Walken is basically the definition

of cool. Up until that point, I had no idea he started

life as a dancer.

Fun song and video, but lots of cuts.
