Normally with mind control stories, the person who discovers or makes the device (or magical object) knows what it does or figures it out pretty quick.
But what if the person who found it was very slow on the uptake? Or so self-absorbed they just figure people are realizing how awesome they are.
So for this story, a gorgeous but somewhat stupid (or at least unobservant) gets her hands on a mind control device and uses it, never figuring out what’s going on.
Device could have even be made with the intention of controlling her but she gets her hands on it and turns it around on them, not realizing it’s anything special.
