This Weekend...

I rented a little baby back-ho.

I started out wanting to excavate a spot about 12' x 16' for a new shed. But that damn thing was so much fun that I was a hole digging fool all weekend! It was a little too tricky for the detail work required to dig a level spot for a shed, so I abandoned that idea after a few hours; the shed-guy can dig the hole when he delivers the shed.

But driving that thing around and digging up bushes was hours of entertainment. I dug up about 10 bushes, and replanted them a few feet away. Then I dug a really deep hole just for the fun of it (I filled it back in later). Then I raised the bucket way up and knocked down a dead branch from a tree - that was fun too although the baby back-ho got pretty shaky with the arm thing extended that far.

Once I was done playing in my yard, I went to all the neighbors' to see if they had anything that needed dug up. One neighbor let me dig up about 50' of forsythia... that was a bit more work then I wanted to do, but hell, I was like some kind of excavation master by that point.

I tried to get the little bastard children to sit in the bucket and let me take them for a ride, but the mother got all pissy about it not being safe. I could have raised them about 7' in the air and driven down the road at a good 20 mph.

Next weekend I may rent a bobcat. They look like they' be fun to play with too!

Bobcats have interesting steering. They are fun, though.

I'm thinking maybe I should get one of those cherry-pickers and take a look at my gutters.

Those are scary...if it's windy at all.

The scissor lifts aren't bad, though.

Ha...I have you girls beat by miles.

Last Spring I rented a jackhammer and removed my front sidewalk and concrete stoop.

Kids were riding their bikes past and giving me the thumbs up because I was so cool.

(I could barely move the next day, though)

:P

For a very, very brief moment I thought you were going to treat us to a hook-up story at a neighborhood restaurant.

I think a couple of people here aren't sure if it's OK to use the term "back-ho."

If the skid steer starts to feel too bouncy, let go of the controls. Much safer than trying to compensate.

Sunbelt Rentals is my new favorite toy store. They have a HUGE forklift there! I bet I could use it to hide my neighbor's car.

How much did it cost to rent the little backhoe? I could use one of those things.

$206 a day + $50 delivery/pick-up fee. Get it delivered on a Saturday because they give you Sunday for free!

"backhoe." One word. Ends in "e".

But that's not as funny as back-HO.

I'm thinking of radiant heat in the slab under the shed.

I see your point. Plus, what would I have done if you hadn't given me the opening.

It might be a good idea to start with a level floor for that.
