my grandma died.
and was buried this week.
i only just found out, 15 minutes ago, because my dad mentioned it when he popped over to ask what the kids wanted for xmas.
i'm told i met her when i was a toddler...
am i supposed to feel something?
i'm not sure that i do...
life is funny.

I'm sorry for your loss blunty, its hard to know how to feel about someone from your family dying that you only ever met once when you were too small to actually remember it, it'll take a while to process the news before you'll know how to feel about her passing.
PS. Thats a very cute kitten..

There's a big hole where your family history might have been, but you never knew that. I'm truly sorry you never knew.

It's not about "feeling something" when somebody dies: It's about paying respects to the person's life, family and friends. You cant be that close to your father, who's just lost a parent!
That kind of lack of close contact in a family -- so you don't hear about your own grandmother being buried until after the event, is totally alien and weird to me, and to many Jewish people, who have much stronger and closer family ties.

Somebody quote this for posterity because you'll not likely see me type this sentence again in your lifetime....
You're absolutely right, Ishmael.

now this thread kicks me straight in the nuts. i only met my grandma(my dad's side) only 3 times in person, seen her on photos, heard stories about her, and recently spoken to her over the phone for the 1st time, but i still feel i didn't know her enough. now she only has 2 months to live and it's basically eating me inside. my grandma on my mom's side is in heaven(rip my mama *poors liquor in her honor*) and i knew her better than mentioned grandma, but i still feel i could've connected to her more. i know my mom still cries for my grandma and talks how great of a woman she is. what's funny is both grandmas are contrast to eachother from evil to good. my grandma that has a few months to live is somewhat a bit of racist (discriminates the native indians, and perfers spanish or asian ppl sinse she's mixed with both) and is just down right evil to ppl outside her close family whilst my dead grandma was a ppl's person, devoted christian, charitable person, and a humanitarian. to be honest i love both period regardless of thier morals. in my culture we are thought that our grandparents are one of the most important things we can ever have - that's why when i look at america it makes me angry at how ppl just dump thier grandparents in some isolated home of doom. i am sure the same thing can be said about any 1st world english country.
