Arrow Stupid Holiday Movies

It's that time of year again, Campers. Every channel that hasn't got proper programing revels in the chance to show stupid Christmas movies. Movies with stories you could have written in your sleep with cardboard characters and stilted dialogue and soppy plots meant to bring a tear to someone's eye all made on a budge of $1.50 and co-starring actors who would otherwise be out on the street with "Will act for food!" signs (actually, that is probably what they did act for in this movies...).

Modern remakes of a Christmas Carol, of "It's a Wonderful Life." Movies with kids making wishes, Santa's son, daughter, brother. Movies about Christmas dogs, elves, flying reindeer, living toys, wayward angels. Movies about trusting your heart, being with family, and having faith.

Well, It's time to 'fess up, boys and girls. We know you're watching these movies. Yeah, yeah, yeah, it's something to put on while you're making dinner or lying in bed while your spouse brushes their teeth. Or someone else has it on and you're just watching it because you're in the same room. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

It's still time to 'Fess up!

Which types of stupid holiday movies (or which particular stupid holiday movie) do you like to watch every year even though you know they're really dumb, dumb, dumb? And which types of stupid holiday movies (or a particular stupid holiday movie) so get on your nerves that you can't change the channel fast enough?

I will be the first to 'fess up: I'll watch any type of Christmas Carol movie even if it stars Vanessa Williams or Henry Winkler. On the other side, I will flip to a Saw IV rather than watch a movie about a dog saving Christmas. (Damn you Marley & Me for making those the staple this year!).

Your turn....

The absolute worst Christmas movie ever made is 'Santa Claus Conquers the Martians'. Comedy Central runs it every Christmas. MST3000 has made fun of it, as has Cinematic Titanic.

Don't miss it if you can.

ps: It's on DVD too.

I try to avoid all Christmas movies. In particular It's a Wonderful Life and any version of A Christmas Carol.

What was that one with Richards Attenborough (playing Santa), that ends up in a trial. "In God we trust".

That and the Muppets Christmas Carol (with Michael Caine).

THe Canterville Ghost (with Cheri Lunghi and Patrick Stewart)

*bows head in shame* I watch the He-Man and She-Ra Christmas special every year.... It's dreadful, trite, contrived and studip and I love it. I didn't even like He-Man when I was a kid. But I bought a scratchy old VHS tape sometime in the early 90s at a yard sale (because it was so darn bizarre) and last year, someone gave me the DVD for Christmas.

Which brings me to my guilty Christmas movie pleasures. Like the OP, I'll watch any version of a Christmas Carol at least once, but also, I love the animated cartoon Christmas specials. Especially if it takes place in a time/place where Christmas normally wouldn't exist. Like Eternia. I have a bit of a collection now.

I'm looking forward to the Disney's Channel's Phineas and Ferb Christmas Special, premiering Dec 11. (I suspect that it will be repeated at a least two or three times between then and Christmas as most P&F episodes are, but that's OK with me.

I will probably watch most of the animated Disney Christmas specials and Christmas Episodes of their current (and past) Disney Channel animated series.

I seldom watch live action holiday specials, although Bob Hope Christmas Special restrospective is a probable exception (for nostalgia reasons) if I happen across it while channel surfing.

I don't think this one falls under stupid, but it's a great adult Christmas movie. Anyone seen Love Actually?

I that movie. I think I actually started a thread once out of my love for it.

I love all the kids Christmas shows. I have a special weakness for the Garfield Christmas special, tho I haven't seen it in years. I've already started setting up the tivo for some of them, just so I don't miss anything good.

My fave Christmas movie, tho, isn't really embarrassing- I LOVE Miracle on 34th St (the old one, not the remake, which I hated. Why mess with a good thing?)

One of my favorites, too - and, believe it or not, the small savage pulls it out more often than I do.

Family traditions are the old How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and the Charlie Brown christmas special. I can recite the entire scripts of both, but I still love them.

I couldn't believe how many superb actors are in it. It was a great story about love at Christmas. My fave chick flik. It just seems to have everything in it. Even the deleted scenes are great.

There's the Christmas Spirit! And no, it doesn't have to be stupid and awful, but the more stupid and awful the better! Ketalia, so far, you're in the lead for having the most Christmas Spirit! I don't think my Henry Winkler version of Christmas Carol can beat out a He-Man & She-Ra Christmas. That's simply awesome!

Oh, and Handley, you're thinking of Miracle on 34th Street. The Attenborough one is the modern version. The original black-n-white is much better and makes more sense as it makes use of the historic rivalry between Macy's and Gimbel's department stores in Manhattan and the bad guy is on the inside trying to sabotague Santa, not from the outside.

Typically, the remake uses a new fangled department store to represent the villains and they're going after the old fashioned department store. Ironic how Xmas movies all want things nostolgic, traditional and luddite even as the commercials in between such movies advertise new cellphones, digital cameras and computer games

I saw it last weekend. Pretty good movie.

The Christmas movie viewing season will begin this weekend, I'm sure. My son insists on watching Ernest Saves Christmas at least once each year.

I'm partial to the Alistair Sim version of Scrooge, and as much as I as I am sick of Jim Carrey, I will at least pay for a ticket to the new version of 'A Christmas Carol' this year. Growing up, 'The Wizard of Oz' only played at Christmas, not sure why because it had nothing to do with Christmas, but I will watch it again this year. I have a particular fondness for claymations and will watch every single one that was made in the 1970s. I'll watch Frosty The Snow Man, too. I love it all! I love Christmas!!!

Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol is sorely missed. It hasn't played in years. I liked Uncle Scrooge as Ebenezer, too. Those are my choices. The rest . . . meh!
