Arrow Saturdays Senate Vote on whether to debate the Health Care Bill

This aught to be fun.

Festivities begin tomorrow 11/21/09 at 10AM with a roll call vote planned for 8PM tomorrow night.

The Party of No is expected to stall the vote and all are expected to vote No to Cloture....which in lamens terms means they dont even want to discuss the bill.

Where do these people get off?

You know Dems have done the exact same thing before. Happens all the time no matter who is in charge. Where do you get off acting like it's just one party?

It's a standard political ploy. All this shit is. You act like nobody has ever done it before or only the Republicans do it. That's ignorant and it's just whining because you think everyone has to agree with you.
We all know you're an ignorant fuck, why not try to rise above it once in a while?

Several Democrats are also sticks in the mud on this bill, so I am fully aware it's not simply the Party of No.

But all 40 republican senators are against the bill, and even against discussing it.

So? Do you think there has never been a bill that Democrats refused to discuss?
You're calling out one party for something the both parties do as often as they can.
Do you not see how ignorant that is?

If it ain't worth discussing it ain't worth passing.

It takes a dumb S.O.B. to pass a bill that they don't even know what's in it or what it does or what effect it Will have.

How do you know they haven't read it. Isn't voting against it without reading it lame too?

What's the hurry? Why must it be rushed through?

Can it not stand on it's own merits?

Put some daylight on it, let the public come to a full understanding of what it all means for them and their descendants.

We need to understand the royal ass reaming we are going to receive.

Did you mean "layman's terms" or terms that were just pathetically lame? I'm thinking the latter, since you obviously have no fucking idea what a cloture vote does. It "closes" or, more precisely, limits debate. It doesn't enable it. A successful cloture vote specifically restricts debate to a period of no more than 30 hours. If the motion fails, "debate" continues -- in this case probably in the form of a Republican filibuster.

But the vote tomorrow isn't about debate. It is about defeat or passage of the bill. Cloture votes require 60 affirmative votes to close debate. Final passage of the bill requires only a simple majority of 51. Obviously the best chance for opponents and blue dog Democrats looking for concessions lies with the vote tomorrow. After that, it will be far more difficult to stop the train.

But to actually know any of this, you would have had to pass a high school civics class or Googled a few relevant pages online. "Lamen" my ass.

The bill the Senate will be voted on hasn't been posted for thirty hours yet, let alone weeks.

Not at all.

It takes more votes to pass cloture than to pass the bill. Thus, the Republican strategy is to force Democrats who wish to vote for cloture and hide that vote by voting against the bill, to face their respective constituencies without adequate defense. Many know that a vote in favor of the bill will hurt their reelection efforts, so the focus is not on the bill itself but on the cloture roll call. This is old fashioned Senatorial politics - both parties do it and it's just one of the interesting aspects of the U.S. Senate.

There you go.

Since 250 B.C. the senate design thought they had some type of power.

I agree that the Republicans are trying to make it very difficult for Obama to get things done. I think dems are guilty of the same thing though not quite as evident. It is just one of the many things that are wrong with our country. Politics are so broken and divided that nothing important can really get accomplished. This can be hazardous if we are never able to come together to solve the environmental crisis that we face.
