Otherwise known as the death rattle of the DVD renting industry.

BTW - all that DVD stuff is over soon. 100% streaming in less than three years.

I want 1080p streaming. Because of blu-ray, I've stepped foot in a blockbuster for the first time in years.

Somewhere between (and beyond) streaming and hard-drive storage is whatever is next. DVDs and CDs are already dead, they just don't quite know it yet.

The empire (the studios) strike back!

About 2 months ago, the major studios announced they would not sell DVDs to the "Redbox" ($1 DVD kiosks) until 2 months after a movie was released on DVD...

Just yesterday, they announced a 30-day embargo on sales to Netflix of movies released on DVD...

I doubt it. 75% of all students prefer downloads to streaming.

They're closing nationally, too.

Even their own financial people say they don't see a future for Blockbuster.

I don't completely understand it, but WiMAX may bring broadband to rural people in somewhere between 5 -20 years (unless satellite is better). Consider this: As long as you're within 30 miles of the local central office, you can get 1.5 Mbit or faster Internet with no wireless to lay.

Frankly, I'm more disappointed at the lack of wires being laid in large cities. Most places I look I only have one or two choices for broadband.

More folks out of work. And we're not talking MIT grads here, we're talking about the guys who couldn't get a job at McD's.
I think the old saying about the world needing ditch diggers too just isn't true anymore..

Digitally streamed self-digging ditches.

Tried those things twice, got a torn up dvd that would not play the 1st time. The second one was in worse shape.

The technology exists to transmit digital signal over power transmission lines (BLC or PLC) but the power companies don't know how to make it happen. And there are interference issues to contend with.
