This thread is going to suffer from the same problem that plagued your video link in the OP -- arguing over a definition of terrorism and who is entitled to provide the definition.
Major Hasan was a sympathizer with the jihadists, who have called for the wholesale killing of United States citizens. Bin Laden has called for all loyal jihadists to take it upon themselves to kill the infidel Americans. Hasan did exactly that. The fact that he was not a member of a terrorist organization or that he did not conspire with other actors does not discredit his actions and motivations as being inspired by jihad. And as a jihadist, you don't kill people to frighten or terrorize them. You do it, in part, to frighten those who survive and who witnessed the act.
By any reasonable definition, that's terrorism. |
