He had some spelling mistakes. Unless I missed the part where he started yelling at the woman and called her a "bloody munter."

I would've if I'd been him.
No one could pay me enough to do his job. He picked up a real poisoned chalice when he took over from Tony.

Britain has always been ruled by London, and London has always been ruled by Greed. So fuck the fucking fucks. Blair was the worst because he spoke like a Socialist. Britons get told what to vote by the Sun newspaper. They told people to vote Blair into power. They're telling people to vote Tory now

'45 was roughly our last good president, too, unless you're convinced that Reagan wasn't an imbecile.

Previous generations received a telegram, a letter from the soldiers company comander, when he could find time during the execution of battle, and a circular letter at the end of the war accompanying service medal awarded post mortem.
He then phoned the woman to apologise, again a very human act, and suffered her opprobium without responding.
Whilst I do believe that he is directly responsible for the under-equipping of our troops that led to Jamie Janes death, I do respect the fact that he tried to convey his sympathy to the family.
No good deed goes unpunished.

No, he is an idiot.
He has created a coterie of courtiers who feed him only the information that permits plausible deniability. He knows this, and that is why he hates being told the truth by the generals, it means he has to lie knowingly.
How often did he claim that the MOD told him we have enough Helis in Afghan, when the military officers were saying we didn't.
Hell, I flew in more helis in NI than are deployed in Afghan.

His handlinbg of the war is wrongheaded and I suspect its because he wants out but hasn't got the chops to go against the yanks.
It doesn't make him an idiot though.

I wholeheartedly agree with this. It's also worth bearing in mind that Gordon Brown is blind in one eye and has failing sight in his 'good' eye. I don't think it's unreasonable that a man with such a visual impairment would have handwriting that's less than perfect copperplate.

bind in one eye, which is why he usually writes in black felt tip pen. to be honest, someone should have had the job of checking through that letter to avoid such mistakes. The mother now understands the reasons behind the mistakes and has said so - her previous comments came from a place of grief and anguish.
IMO Brown was never Prime Ministerial material, and he did - as IK points out - pick up the most tainted chalice after Blair went his merry way.
Of course the Tories will get in next; after three terms of Labour, the country will change. It always does after a two or three term stint since problems will always exist and people hope a change in government will bring about the good times.
SJ - not EVERYONE reads the Sun. puhleeze. And they simply back whomever they think will win so as to claim post-election credit for backing them. More people would vote Lib-Dem if they had any chance of winning, but even they seemed to lose out by becoming Lib-Dem instead of the plain old Liberal Party.

Gordon Brown gets up in public, makes a statement which his advisors know to be nonsense, and he makes a fool of himself, time and time again. Any leader who doesn't learn from that is an idiot. He should have sacked two or three senior civil servants the first time it happened. Instead he is in a hole, and not only did he keep on digging, he pulled a backhoe in so he could dig deeper, faster.
He is clearly a very intelligent man, but itelligence used so ineptly is the mark of a fool.

My eyesight is good, and my writing is worse than his.
I believe Gordon Brown is a very moral man. He understands the grief of losing a child since Sarah and he lost their first child. I have no doubt that the man shares the loss of Mrs Janes.
She is suffering deep grief and has taken her opportunity to voice the belief of many service families that as chancellor, and now PM, he is directly responsible for the paucity of much of the equipment at the start of the war. She has also taken the chance to use the press to publicise the additional risk imposed by this.
I think the Sun newspaper has manipulated her.
