i'm wondering what i actually want the result to be.
full blown aspergers? or just aspergesque?
what difference would it make to my life if i am?

*would* it make a difference to you, either way?
since it's not that widely known, don't think there'd be any kind of stigma attached to it. but if you described it to people as "yeah it's kinda like autism-light", they might give you weird looks :-( people can be mean, sometimes.
are you nervous?

Good luck. If you do have it, you might find that the diagnosis helps people to understand you better and you might understand yourself better than you do (I don't know you, so I can't say how well you know yourself). A lot of people with it lack insight into their own behaviour, so some insight might be helpful( again, I don't know you).

why and how?
pretty much nobody had ever heard of it when i was at school.
late diagnosis is very common.

it's classed as a disability here...any sort of mental disability carries a stigma.
mr wrong thinks knowing one way or another will bring some peace of mind.
could go back to college if i had a label, because they'd accomidate my issues.
ups and downs.

Actually no. There are a number of people in this world with Pervasive Development Disorders who didn't get diagnosed until they were adults.

enough people think i might be, including my doc, for me to have looked into it. i certainly have a lot of aspergers traits and it's helped a lot to read about other people and think, ''omg! that's exactly what it's like!'' after so many years of people saying, ''nope, it's not like that for me.''
but the label thing feels like a big deal.
being told you're officially weird.

it's much better now. most kids are picked up in primary school.
and the kids are integrated but supported.

I guess when something comes along about yourself that you don't understand at least now you can put a name and a possible reason to it.
The "tortured artist" always got the better prices.
Just tell them you have aspergers type D*.

Why is it important to you? Will you get disability allowance or something if youre diagnosed with it?

no idea.
but...it's hard to explain quite why it matters. the need for and reason why is fairly common though. don't you like to know why?
there's parts of my life where it would be helpful. like dentists. something basic and simple but they have dentists who work from the surgery, rather than their own practices, who are trained to be more aware.
i have MAJOR issues with people touching me, and in a tense situation like that i don't have the ability to do communication, because communication takes conscious effort for me...seriously, i usually have to 'sleep it off' after putting on the social face for any amount of time.
so a dentist who knew enough not to be offended by this would be just fantastic.
there's just lots of little things like this.
i can cope, but it would be nice to have the world meeting me halfway sometimes.

Well I have a very different take on things like this that would too easily be misunderstood if I tried here. Anyway this forum is not the place to explain it, because this is where I come to flirt and blurt.
Good luck, I sort of hope you aren't diagnosed with "full-blown" Aspergers.

don't let a label change you
if it helps you put things in perspective and recognise that's the whyfore of certain ways of you, then it's all good. Besides, you don't have to go around telling everyone do you? Go into the bakers ... "A cream cake please and by the way I have Aspergers"
you be cool.

You're still the same person whether you have a diagnosis or not. The label really doesn't matter. What matters is what's in the jar, and how long it's been sitting on the shelf. And whether your little brother has double dipped his butter knife in it and got jelly all swirled around.
The point is, we all have our faults. And a good portion of our faults are caused by things we can't control. Whether they're hormones, autism, an abusive past, or some unknown quirk of biochemistry really doesn't matter. You are you.
But enough about me. Or you. I forget.
On the other hand, if you're asking what differences will it make legally that's an entirely separate issue. If it's recognized as a disability where you are (which it probably is) then you may get financial aid or help with school.

no, not legally. i don't s'pose it makes much difference at all there.
i'm not even really sure what i'm asking here...
waffling f'sure.
but i'll leave in half an hour and i'm a little on the tense side.
...butter in the jelly jar? ew! i really hate that!
