A deer at the zoo

The lions at the National Zoo had some excitement recently.

The zoo is located in a big nature area called Rock Creek Park. It seems a deer from the park jumped into the lion enclosure.

Sad, but non-graphic video:

The lion-keepers put the lions in their house, but the deer was too damaged to be saved.

7 minutes isn't long enough to allow people to read my post, view the link, think about a reply, then type out a well-reasoned and very insightful post.

Back to the topic at hand, I feel sorry for the deer, but I'm glad the lions got to do something besides just sit around all day. They'll be talking about this day for years to come!

They're not hungry lions.

Instinct takes over.

Cat and ball of string (they're just playing with their food).

Sharpening their hunting skills via instinct.

I go to that zoo a lot and it's depressing to see the big cats with nothing to do. The monkeys on the other hand - they have a ball. Especially those ones with the red asses.

The National Zoo is pretty nice, although it's built on the side of a mountain so you have to be half billy-goat to enjoy it - or what I do, have a friend drop you off at the top and let them park the car at the bottom.

I'm going to the movies, and when I get back I expect some well-reasoned and thoughtful posts in this thread.

Go see The Men Who Stare at Goats.

Sort of on topic for this thread.

BTW, I've gotten 5 or so PM's from posters about to post replies to this thread. I've got errands to run and I will bump this as it slips to page two for you.

Thumper: "Mama - I gotta go tell Bambi not to jump into the mean ol' lion's den!"

Mom: "Thumper, what have I always told you?"

Thumper: *sighs* "If you don't have nuthin' nice to say, then don't say nuthin' at all."

I found that zoo completely depressing. It turned me off zoos for a long time. The animals were clearly bored and psychotic. One of them was typing the same thing over and over in this old abandoned hotel. It was scary.
