I'm taking a continuing ed class

20th Century Literature.
I'm not sure what education it would be continuing since anyone with an education in literature would have certainly read the books we're going to read but it's at the high school so it's close and the price was right and it gets me out of the house a couple hours a week now that golf season is almost done.
Speaking of golf, it was windy today. A lob from about 10 yards went fucking sideways on me because a gust came along just as I was swinging.
That doesn't have anything to do with my class. I'm just bitching.
We're reading Beloved first. I've read Beloved. I want to read something else.

The 1800s were a great time, glad you are reading about the literature of that time.

My clubs are cleaned and put away.

I'm worn out on the political threads and may put the politicos on ignore for a week or so.

It was beautiful today, even with the wind. You were on the golf course on November 6th. Stop bitching.

I'm surprised the teacher went with Beloved when a lot of undergrad/high school classes feature that book. I imagine you aren't the only one in the class who has already read it. What would you like to read?

Yeah, the political threads have pretty much worn out their welcome. I was putting most of them on ignore but slowed down because I like to make sure that some of them are always aware of how stupid they are but I think the time has come to get rid of them, too.

The clubs never get "put away." There will be maybe a month this winter where I won't play at all. Otherwise I'll get at least a few days in each month wherever the sunshine is. Last winter was Arizona but that place is too desert-y and old. All the fuckin' fogies make it like Florida with cacti.

They call it continuing ed, I call it a book club with a membership fee. I don't think the teacher put all that much thought into the reading list. Probably just for people like me who just need an excuse to get out for a couple hours.
I don't know what I'd like to read, I don't even mind reading something I've read but I just wasn't in the mood for Beloved. Not like I really have to read it or anything but I'd feel bad if I didn't at least skim over it.

Possibly. Probably good that I won't give a shit. I was the "old bitch" in college so I'm sorta used to it. Of course back then everyone was nice because I was over 21 as a frosh.

So why are you bothering to take it? You aren't doing your classmates any favors...

It's a zero credit con ed class. It's for fun. And why would I not be doing them favors? Just because I don't want to read the first book doesn't mean I'm going to go in and mock everyone. For fucks sake.

See, I could never do this. My brain is already full. In fact, if I want to learn something new, I have to forget something old to make room.

On an episode of Married with Children, Kelly got on a sports trivia show and Al tutored her on everything because he wanted whatever dumb prize it was and she was kicking ass until she accidentally learned something new during the show and the answer she needed was pushed out of her brain.
Aren't you impressed that I knew that?

She made that show.

But... wasn't it on for like, 10 years?

Somewhere around 10 I think. It had it's moments even in the later years and they got really fucked over by Fox who simply cancelled them without notice and never allowed them to have a real finale. The cast and crew are still bitter about that even today.
That show helped get Fox off the ground and all they got for it was kick in the ass. Just another reason to hate Fox. Although they did give us the Simpsons and X-Files so there's that.

No doubt. I learn something new every time I re-read a book even when it's just mass market genre fiction or whatever. You always miss something the first time around.
Plus I get to go to a place where there are only adults.

From what I understand, it came within a hair's breadth of being cancelled in it's first year. Some idiot woman tuned into it thinking it was a wholesome family sitcom, and was offended by the crass humor....
