don't know about iPhone killer, but it at least gives some similar functionality on a better network than ATT.
And with it being linux based, will likely be plenty of places to find apps without a mother company nannying what is available.
I know I will be taking a serious look at it once my current contract is up after xmas.

Well thats true! ATT I hear isn't so great. Verizon is much better. The apps will catch up at some point, one would think. I saw the phone on Friday, its really nice and my guess is its a big seller for them.

I've had bad service from ATT wireless ever since I got stuck with them when they took over cingular. I am just not usually on the cell enough for it to really bug me. But if I'm going to spend money for a data plan, Verizon seems like the much better place to be.
I'm also hoping with android being a Motorola phone, it will at least do as well as the other Motorola's I've had. Only reason I've had problems with a Motorola phone was due to it receiving prolonged physical abuse.

I was hoping Sprint came up with better equipment, I believe they have the cheapest plans. With Verizon I've never had an issue and sales at the store I visit seem to be robust. But check Best Buy before you buy a new phone. Much cheaper.

The nice thing with Sprint is, as understand it, they piggyback on Verizon's towers. Sprint just doesn't get as many channels to handle active call load.
Kinda scary to think Best Buy would be the cheaper place.
I'm mainly hoping that since my current contract is up Xmas day, that there will be some nice deals in that week between Xmas & new years where stores are looking to unload inventory so they don't have to declare it as assets on their taxes.

If you are an Apple person, get the iPhone.
I like my iPhone but there is functionality that is missing because of the lack of Apple interface. I also resent the proprietary limits. No Adobe products on the iPhone. Flash is needed, as is the PDF reader.
Mainly I'm addicted to internet access when I'm out and about. What has my world come to?!?

I love my phone but AT&T really sucks. I'm definitely considering making a switch once my contract runs out. The iphone is pretty useless for me since the entertainment options are the least important feature of a phone for my lifestyle.
I'll have to check out this Droid you're all talking about, see if it has the features i need. Does anyone here actually have it? If so, what do you think?

I used the Palm platform as a PDA for years and adored it, especially for PC interface and organizer.
I'm going to stick to the iPhone until I see what the next improvement is...AT&T is working fine for me. Of course, I had T-Mobile before that and they took down the tower in my area rendering my cell phone useless where I used it the most.

My wrath for AT&T came a year or so ago, I met 3 friends in a city in which none of us live for an event. AT&T did not work there so well, and of course all of us had it. It took about 3 hours for us to locate each other. Other than that, I find myself driving through dead locations often. Come on, the road from NYC to Philly shouldn't have any dead spots!
iPhone won't work for me as I am a heavy business user. It's far too lacking for my purposes -- but of course, it isn't intended to be used the way I want.

When I first heard "Droid", I assumed it was the name for another one of those trendy shitbox cars that looks like a cube.

Article I ran across today says they sold ~100,000 of them over the weekend. Hopefully the trend will keep up so the price will drop by Xmas.

Word. I've had ATT with no problems for almost 9 years.
