ForidaPrison guard rescued by inmates
footage and story here
but it makes me want to vomit, the condescending tone of this wording:
Prison guard Anthony Brown said: "You would think that they would walk away, so somewhere in their hearts, there must be some goodness."
they might be jailed for crimes but that doesn't mean they are men who'll stand by and watch another try to murder a guy doing his job!

but we can sure type fast
I gotta get a new board. they're cheap enough
anyway, what do you make of the attitude of the guard saying what he did? it strikes me as unbelievable - he's a guard and must see these men day in, day out - its like he thinks they're something other than people. Is he a dinosaur?

I worked out with and taught martial arts to guards from both Ft. Leavenworth and Lansing up in NE Kansas (the state prison is within a mile or so of the Federal and military prison).
Those men are underpaid, under-appreciated, and under constant assault from the animals which they have under confinement, and trust me, these "men" they watch are merely putting in time, not trying to "reform" themselves (which is why I have long advocated prison sentences based on goals and true individual change rather than on an amount of time). It's easy to see where his attitude comes from when you listen to their stories of how the day went for any extended period of time.

and I appreciate the underpaid and undervalued aspects. assault on anyone in that sort of environment is horrific. But these people are people. Some will be worse than others. Some worse than animals. But they are humans with human vices and failings. Seems to me the inmates treated this guard as men saving another man. Perhaps the guard isn't so much a dinosaur, but I still find his comments make me shake my head.

Well, we have an old saying about walking a mile in someone else's shoes...
Look at U_D over in the other thread, how he dehumanizes for political purpose, accusing a medical Doctor of hating the troops because he's trying to get them more funding. That's something that should be the thinking of a dinosaur, no?
I'm sure that at the beginning of this man's career, he didn't think like a dinosaur, but had that thought process burned into him by the behaviors of his wards ( and the surrounding environment).

Just get a can of compressed air and blow all the stray pubies out of your keyboard.
It will work like new again.

How does one get pubies into a keyboard and how did you know this "factoid?"

The new ultrakickass Mac keyboards do not allow stray pubies to slip under the keys. Gotta love that.

Not the same, but still very cool.

Noted. And noted.
And by the way, although I support unionism to my core, I have not worked a union hour in years. The cost of an education is not just measured in dollars.
