You put it in a hot pan and it'll pop like popcorn. Teeeeeny tiiiiiny little popped quinoa. It's a trip. Scorches easy, fun for a science experiment.
But ultimately it can't hold a candle to wheat, so my quinoa phase was over.

like reci says, it's a small grain that is packed with protein and carbs. I like it. it's nice in salads but it's currently thickening a leftovers stew.

I don't think we have. I just Googled. It's been presented as a grain and I've always thought of it that way, but it's actually a seed. A "pseudograin"? Heh. Sounds like the difference between tomatoes being a fruit and a vegetable. "It's a fruit until you pick it, then it's a vegetable." What?!
Really, I didn't care for it and it's mostly husk. The pop thing is cool, but it scorches so quickly and it's such a pain to make it certainly never replaced corn or wheat in my heart.
It's tiny, really tiny. Cous cous would dwarf it. Almost salt grain tiny. And it tastes like...fingernails.

Yeah, not that unseasoned grains are fantabulous in flavor, but the husk to kernel ratio is high.
It can also be really bitter if not processed, and of course health people don't care for processing much, so depending on how purist you are, it ranges on the nasty scale.

I guess I'm spoiled, but if it doesn't taste good, I'm not going to eat it. I don't care how good it is for me. Bleg.

I tried it in lots of different ways for a long time.
It just never worked its way into my "things I think are yummy."
The way Kybele is using it is the way I'd most likely use it, fortifying something, the way I'd add brewer's yeast to something just to boost the nutritional content.
It's big on amino acids.

*chuckle!*
I never had a problem with eating my veggies and avoiding sugar and etc, but health food I couldn't ever get into.
I lost almost all my baby weight already, in the first month alone I shed over 30 pounds, which was WEIRD because I didn't expect to lose that much that fast.
I only have 20 pounds to go before I'm back to pre-baby body!
I should cut my portion sizes a little bit, I've been pigging out lately. Breastfeeding makes it hard to keep stuffed, seems like I'm always hungry.
What can you add Brewer's yeast to?

the size in that pic looks bigger or similar size to the cous-cous I buy on occasion. again, as s.d mentions, maybe all this stuff comes in different sizes - most stuff does.

My mother was an organic purist and a nutritional outlaw. She was ordering everything from Walnut Acres 40 years ago and buying black market illegal raw milk. I spent a childhood without sugar or candy, consuming food that tasted like cardboard and swallowing a Dixie cup full of supplements a day. I was not healthy. I was miserable and starved for flavor.
I have an appreciation of health and nutrition, but I will never again eat something just because it's good for me without also making it taste good in the process.
Brewer's yeast is really high in B vitamins, so you can add a teaspoon to stuff like smoothies or salads or soups.
