Despite my love for the vital fluid, I've got a Puritanism that makes me steer clear of this. I have however, gotten several jobs because I walked into the interview loaded like a freight-train which has the effect of enhancing my self-salesmanship.

no, can't say I have. Left work drunk a couple of times in my twenties after office bashes but never went to work boozed up. Wouldn't be right.

I've never been drunk, let alone gone to work or anywhere else in a drunken state.

Never.
I did interview someone who kept nodding off in the middle of the interview. I thought that I wasn't holding on to their attention but it turns out that they were a heroine addict.

Not on purpose, though there were a couple of mornings when I was probably still drunk from the night before. In my much younger days, of course.

Drinking in the middle of the day in my job isn't a particularly big deal. In fact, in someo instances it isn't uncommon. One thing though, its more accurate to say "buzzed" instead of "drunk" in my world.
According to WedMD, fwiw:

At-work alcohol use or impairment was more often admitted by people in these careers:
* Management
* The arts, entertainment, and media
* Sports
* Food preparation or food service
* Maintenance of buildings or grounds

Many years ago. Like, twenty...one of my first jobs after college was working in stands at carnivals selling onion rings and french fries. There were a few evenings when I was buzzed as I clocked in.

lunchtime drinks with colleagues would often have us a little buzzed for sure, but downright drunk was a different matter.
Even buzzed, though, I tend to get sleepy so definitely wouldn't have been working at my best. Lucky it was a very relaxed office!

I can vouch for the arts and maintenance. I've never gone to work drunk, but my colleague has multiple times. I think he drank on the clock as well. If he wasn't the boss' nephew…
Watching the ass he made of himself on the clock while 'buzzed' made me decide to get drunk after work.
And I've worked with maintenance guys who were working on a different kind of 'buzz'. Not a good idea when you're manning a forklift.

I've gone to work buzzed from the previous night many a times, but if I was shitfaced blasted, best believe I'm calling in.
We (me and co-workers) even crack open a bottle and take a swig or two from plastic cups on "casual" Fridays after the main body of work gets finished. I've seen half-finished to finished bottles of wine on people's space counters from time to time (although many have them sent to the office from clients and contacts as gifts, so it's an open invite to imbibe during down times) There's also the company bar people slip into and come back from at times. I work with lotsa lushes keeping their drunk demons on loose lockdown.

I think it has something to do with the stress, plus certain personalities. I work with a good mix of people from varied backgrounds trying to get a certain slice of media out on a daily and weekly basis and largely turning off their personal brain in doing so. It doesn't take a whole lot of arm-twisting to get folk to go down to the company bar after work or knock back a swig or two if you have a bottle under your desk. It's like the one thing everyone can come together on at the end of the day and forget about the cussing and yelling that went on several hours previously.

I never went after drinking, I tended bar and sometimes drank at work towards the end of the night though.
