Wow

This student just stopped me and told me that I have totally changed her life and she's really grateful to me.

did you rip her a new one and get her to re-evaluate her pathetic life so she went and trained to be a nobel-prize winner or something?

Embarrassingly I'm not sure when I taught her (they all look the same). But it has made me feel that I do an OK job.

And I almost never give a student an A. The second marker has at times busted a student up to an A though

I got a D in art. Then I became an architect. Kinda like how Jordan got cut by his high school basketball team. Ok, maybe not quite like that.

I taught at a local Uni for two semesters about 10 years ago. I absolutely hated it! The students were dumb and the Uni didn't even pay for my parking!

We were required to grade on a curve. So you added up the points for the semester and gave 5% A's, 20% B's, the rest were discretionary C's, D's and I had to justify any failures - as if the marketplace wouldn't eventually do that.

Required to grade on a curve? I don't think I'd like that.

In life, you only have to be slightly better than your peer group.

Truth.
Any tiny sign of superiority will immediately give you an advantage whether it's actually worth a shit or not.

Other jokes aside, it's a really good feeling when a student feels that way about you.

I would have nothing to contribute to that, being a sparky sub and all.

the students here are often dumb. widening participation agenda etc... don't get me started....

no curves here. I rarely feel an essay deserves anything above 68% but I have given a couple of 70s. it is rare though. I fail far more which has given me an unfair reputation.
