I'm all awareness'ed out
Now I know breast cancer is an awful thing, but I have to say that I'm pretty much sick of the pink.
Yes, I'm a politically incorrect cad. But, AIDS awareness, MADD student drunks, Breast Cancer, and all the rest of it. I'm just tired of being aware of stuff.
Yellow ribbons, pink ribbons, black ribbons, puzzle piece ribbons, purple ribbons. The madness has to stop!

I kinda know what you mean. At my local Safeway, every time you cash out, they're asking "Would you like to round up for (insert very good cause here)?"
There are so many causes that are so worthwhile. Maybe it's a symptom of American wealth? It does get frustrating, though.

It's National Breast Cancer Awareness Month so deal.
If manly men can wear pink cleats, sweatbands, gloves and other pink items on the gridiron - so can you no matter where you are in honor of something that NEEDS more awareness.

They put a pink ribbon on the White House today. Nobel as the cause may be, that strikes me as inappropriate.

It's a little odd, unless they've made it a focus. If Michele is into the cause, then it makes sense to me.

December is "Save a Ribbon" month. I'm going to commemorate it by wearing a hat made from a baby harp seal.

Oh you poor baby.
Let's take a mug of hot chocolate away from a kid with leukemia so you can feel better. Stupid kid. Should know better than to have cancer anyway.

Funny. Even funnier since the Colonel in your avatar is wearing a HUGE yellow ribbon.

You know? If only everyone could be perfect and rich and pretty with no defects or blemishes like Paris Hilton.

If only all those imperfect people could just get out of sight, where they properly belong.
No manners at all.
It's almost as if incurable illnesses make people...I don't know...try to do something about it.

I think a couple people totally missed the point.

The only thing I'm tired of seeing are companies whose sales increase because they have the damned ribbon on their products. Donate directly to the cause, people.
I don't mind having information abounding, but I am tired of seeing all the campaigns and the companies who profit and only give a tiny portion to the cause.

I remember back a ways maybe a year or so after Philidelphia, Tom Hanks caught some flak for refusing to wear an AIDS pin. He said he felt that so many people were wearing it that people had gotten used to it and forgotten what it was supposed to be about.
I imagine everyone has gotten so used to the magnetic ribbons on the back of cars that they don't pay attention to most of them anymore and that defeats the purpose.
If you saturate the market with something then sooner or later people will stop seeing it or at least stop caring about it.

I think it's ridiculous to tell someone that they must wear a ribbon. Choosing to support it how you choose, through observation of a ribbon or not, is personal.
But to be exhausted by all those causes...that I don't get.

You really don't understand how people will tune out something that they're constantly bombarded with? That's human nature.
Better people than me have brought up this issue about the ribbons before. People are becoming numb to it.

I'm sorry, I find that argument to be bullshit.
Seeing a symbol doesn't "induce exhaustion" and that's just a justification for having very little compassion in the first place. Maybe there should be a ribbon for "jaded asshole."
Being reminded that some people aren't as fortunate as you are through whatever method isn't a reason for trashing the symbol and claiming that having to be aware of something somehow messes up your day.
I can't imagine any reasonable response other than "No, I can't give something right now, I'm sorry." or "Yes, I'm sure I could give up the cost of a cup of coffee today to help out on research."

Then those people aren't those it's marketed towards, is it?
Those poor easily exhausted bastards will just have to faint dead away while those who don't mind helping out others get a chance to do some good.

You're totally not understaning this. It's got nothing to do with people not caring or not wanting to help.
