Adrian had known Lindsay for 15 years. she lived next door and they had grown up together, went through school together.

The past year was the longest time in which they hadn't seen each other. It felt like forever ago that Adrian last saw Lindsay and her tomboyish looks. He wondered whether college had changed her at all.............

By far, the hardest thing Lindsay had ever had to do was to leave Adrian. He had been her best friend for as long as she could remember. THanks to crazy schdeules they hadn't seen eachother in a year and Lindsay was nervous and excited to see her life-long friend. Inside Lindsay was still the same girl, but on the outside, well she had changed. She was now an avid runner, with the long legs to prove it. She had also filled out in all the right places. She was curious if time had changed Adrian too.

Her Dad had picked her up from the airport and they had just pulled into the driveway. As Lindsay climbed from the car she couldn't help but to look at the house next door, Adrian's house.

Adrian knew Lindsay was home sometime today. But because his mom was forcing him to help out with the planning for the barbeque for the town festival, he hadn't had a chance to check if she was home. Maybe he'd see her tonight. Maybe she wouldn't come. She would probably be tired from the flight. A year is a long time and time changes people. He hope she hadn't changed. He liked the girl he had shared his inner most secrets with.

All day he was running errands for his mom. He finally got cut loose, but only to shower and change. He put his favourite shirt and his good pair of jeans. If Lindsay wasn't there, maybe he could chat up another girl home for the holidays.

Lindsay was in a whirlwind of family members and catching up. It so happend that she had come home on the day of the festival in town. It was the biggest celebration the town had. After seeing many of her family members that she hadn't seen in the past year she was sent up to her old room to get ready. She showered and got dressed, wearing a jean skirt and a fitted tshirt. She left her long brown hair loose around her shoulders. She came down the stairs just in time for them to leave. When they made it to the center of town she told her family she just wanted to look around a little, on her own. She walked the street that was so familiar to her, thinking of Adrian.

Adrian arrived at the main town square just as the festivities were kicking off. He ran into a couple of old school friends. He made small talk, but he was keeping his eyes open for Lindsay. Now he really wanted her to come. He thought back to last summer and the festival then. It was one of the last times he had seen Lindsay. He hoped it wasn't the last time.

Lindsay made her way down the street greeting people she hadn't seen in at least a year. She finally made it to the center of the town square. She looked around as she talked with a friend from high school and noticed Adrian standing with another group. She was tempted to walk away from the group she was currently standing with and throw her arms around her best friend, but she didn't...manners told her that wasn't right. She decided to wait it out...

Adrian held back a gasp. There she was.

He politely excused himself from his friends and walked over to her. How should he greet her? A simple hi? Or a big bear hug?

"Hi".

Lindsay had focused her attention at the people in front of her. Until she heard that familar voice that is, she quickly turned to face him, "Hi!" she didn't know how he would react but she wrapped her arms around his neck in a tight hug, "Oh my gosh I've missed you so much!"

"How you been? I missed you too. What happened to weekly phone calls? You know that hurt me", he said smiling, feigning to be hurt.

Lindsay smiled, "Ive been good... You know me, same old stuff. How bout you?...what have you been up to?...And don't even try to place all the blame on me...as far as I know you have a phone too....did you forget how to dial?" she smiled at him. It felt good to be able to exchange friendly banter with her friend again.

Adrian realised how much Lindsay had changed. She had filled out in all the right places, she was hot!

"Look at you, you look great!"

Lindsay laughed, "Well thanks....I guess I have changed a little since the last time we saw eachother huh?....Seriously tho, How've you been?...What's new?"

"I'm good. College was a blast. As you know I got my soccer scolarship. We won the freshman state championship and there's a good chance I might make varsity next year. How about you, what's new with you?"

"That's great!...I knew with you on the team you guys would do great! They'd be stupid not to make you varsity next year.....As far as me?....Dance pretty much takes up most of my life...but that isn't something terribly new right?"

"I bet you're driving all the guys mad with your dance moves".

Adrian was teasing her because before they had left for college, Lindsay was extremely shy around guys. She had only kissed a handful. Not that he had been any more experienced.

Lindsay laughed and rolled her eyes, "I wouldn't know if that were true or not.....but since you brought it up.... How're you and.....oh shoot, what was her name?....Umm.....Katie?" she could remember talking to her mom and asking how he was doing and she had told her about the girl Adrian had been seeing recently, she said that she had thought she could be "the one" which for some reason didn't make Lindsay excited for her friend.... she had just realized that she hadn't met the girl or anything..

"Oh, umm, can we talk about that later?"

In truth, Adrian didn't want to discuss how he had his heart broken in front of a whole bunch of people.

Lindsay could instantly see the pained looked across his face and felt horrible, "Of course...I'm sorry Adrian." She looped one arm around his neck as they started to walk thru the town, "So...tell me, has anything changed around this place?...I mean, besides the fact that my old bedroom is now the "home office"/"Toss Everything Into It, room?" she smiled, it felt nice to have her old friend back.

Adrian smiled again.

"Hey, I'm only here a couple of days ahead ya. And I haven't made far outside the house. Mom was having help out for this massive barbeque later. By the way, you are coming, you have no say in the matter!"

Lindsay laughed, "Yeah, I'll be there. My mom has already told me I have no choice." she smiled at him. "I've missed your family.....they were always like my family too."

"Yeah they are. Hey you wanna go back to mine now? Give us a little privacy to catch up".

She smiled, "Yeah, I'd like that." she knew that she couldn't have cared less about the festival. She only wanted to spend time with Adrian again.

"Cool, my car is over here".

They climbed into the car and made the short trip back to his house. They made small talk along the way, each telling the other what they had been up to over the past year. They pulled up in front of the house and got out. Lindsay looked up at the house as they walked, "Wow, its just like I remember it being....hasn't changed a bit." she smiled at him.

Adrian smiled.

"Wait till we get inside, and to my room. It was unrecognisable a few days ago, but I've brought some sort of normality back to it."

He unlocked the front door and let Lindsay in.
