AJ's orbiting!
BBC2 Sci Fi drama 1/13 pilot. Defying Gravity
AJ's just gone out the airlock in his space suit, with his com turned off, and has put himself into orbit.
"Cut him loose"
"What?"
"I said cut him loose! This is a 16 billion dollar expedition and I don't have time for AJ's little melt-down!"
*gets punched in mouth*
who'd have thought? aw bless. OH! he's a robot!!! and a NOT suicidal robot.
goody

they just told us 90% of the universe is made up of nothing.
yes. you heard it on this show first. no-thing.
"When you're an astronaut you start asking yourself
how did I get here ... was it Fate? The hand of God?"
I think it's time to switch to the news. almost as bad but delivered in English accents.

I tried watching the show. Lasted about as long as I'd tried to listen to AJ.
Both now blissfully unwatched.

So bad, in fact, that rather than straight-to-DVD, it went straight-to-England.

If you've not watched it and can access it, Reci, Being Human is great. Funny and awful and sad and horrendous
http://being-human.tv/Cast/
brief plotline:
an agoraphobic girl ghost murdered by her boyfriend; an unwilling werewolf bitten when younger and now a quiet, smart, unassuming hospital porter keen to stay out of the public eye; and an Irish vampire trying to go 'straight'. They get together to share the house she can't leave and it goes from there.

There's been some decent sex scenes so far too..
Not sure about Being Human, though I might be able to find out..

I'm really a media omnivore. I'm not I have "Dress to Kill" memorized and Eddie is the voice on my GPS. We like having him yell at us. When you miss a turn (sometimes we drive the wrong way on purpose) he'll say "For God's sake, stop pissing about!" My son loves it.
I get BBC America and there's good stuff there. I loved "Wire in the Blood" and "That Mitchell and Webb Look."
However, "Torchwood" fucking sucked. It even made me dislike James Marsters and I love that guy.

Is it better than "Buffy the Vampire Slayer"? Or even comparable?
I'm a die-hard Buffy/Joss Whedon fan, and I tend to rewatch his stuff over and over. I just finished all of Firefly/Serenity and I'm rewatching Buffy (in the second season) after which I'll go watch "Angel" seasons in order and then probably start on "Supernatural" (not Whedon, but Eric Kripke is a damned good writer.)
Have you seen any of those shows and does it compare?
That's a lot to compete with. I think I've seen commercials, but I've seen more teen angst than humor. I can't stand lack of humor and perspective.
I really, really hate shows where people have superpowers and then whine about it. Yes, "Smallville", I'm talking to you. Way to make Superman a total whiny wuss.
It's gonna be hard to beat Seth Green's werewolf rendition.

damn. I knew you were too good to be true
Torchwood is about my favourite tv. which series did you watch or just one programme? I guess you need to watch it from scratch to understand all the ... ah, and then you didn't grow up with Dr. Who, did you? Lots of the references, even background music ar Doccy Who related and reference stuff from back in the 60's and 70's even. Not that this should make for alienating an audience. Ok, James Marsters - he only made the briefest of appearances and (probably) all in series one, maybe on episode in series 2? something like that. Oh, he was nu-thn'. Anyway, each to their own. I shan' hold it against you, lol.

I watched about maybe six episodes. I gave it a good try. Everyone was so damned serious and then ridiculously flippant in turns. It wasn't lack of context, it was tone. I know Dr. Who, but really never got into it. I was more of a Star Trek fan.
I just couldn't hook on to any of the characters as people I'd empathize with or care for. Too many stereotypically stupid story lines where people who should know better because their job is apparently looking beneath the surface of things...kept pissing each other off and failing to work together.
I thought the characters were all unnecessarily mean to each other and I couldn't see why I should give a damn if they didn't learn everything they needed to know in kindergarten about observing other human beings and being nice occasionally.
I'm a sci fi fan, but I'm essentially after human characters, not the slime-dripping ones or the chicks in the fur bikinis that if they're blue, they must be aliens. I still need good character writing and I never got to it.
Star Trek had blue chicks in fur bikinis, but it had character writing as a priority and I think that's what sells something to me. Otherwise I'm just not that interested in fur bikinis.
It's not a British thing, really, unfortunately LOTS of Science Fiction now focuses on the conflict and the horror and the weird and they miss out (for me) in grounding it in human characters. Most of their humor came off as cutesy or arrogant. I slid right off it, nothing to hug.
