have You Ever Had To Pull A gun In defense Of Yourself Or Others?
Or to convince some outlaw to be somewhere else.
This is not a thread on Gun Control of If we should have guns.
This is real life and i realize it can be an intensely private thing so partial stories and slightly changing names or location is OK.
I will relate some of my experiences tomorrow.

Sure as hell did.
Unlike other Litsters here who profess that they'd let some growling dog chew their spouse and kids to death, I opted to put one down for threatening my family.
And for that matter I'd be glad to put down any fucktard who questions my right to do so.

No but I have had a neighbor hood asshole pull a gun from across the street on me to impress a friend. I was 14. My sister called the cops and they were there in a few minutes and his gun was found and he was arrested.
His mother was called from the house of my friend. She showed up to see him cuffed on the sidewalk and she started cussing at him and slapping him on the head embarrassing him in front of the neighborhood. The cop stopped her and let her know where to come pick him up. He was 17 and charged with felony possession of a firearm and maybe something else.
No shots fired. I did find out a few years back what the kid was up to now. He is all the way up in Minnesota. In a maximum security prison for selling crack.

Yep,
Returning from a IHMSA Shooting Competition carrying a S&W M29 and a Wichita 7mm IHMSA in a backback.
The young boys were wielding Knives and Sharpened Screw Drivers.
I showed the youths the 29 and the looks on their faces was PRICELESS.

Nice one Akatrex. One of those times you wish your buddy was there with a camera.
Reminds me of the time me and a buddy were walking through a shitty part of Baton Rouge and some crack head tried to hold us up with a rusty potato peeler. We didn't have a gun but it worked out just fine for us anyway.

If I still lived in Detroit, I would probably have killed a dozen or more armed robbers or so by now.

Where I come from, we don't to that.
You don't "pull a gun" and not shoot. If you aren't going to shoot, you don't "pull your gun." Not talking about hunting, of course, but TV-style display of weapon with lots of chit chat. That dog don't hunt some places. You keep your weapon stowed unless you are going to use it; you don't present it as an audio-visual aid or as decorative punk-tu-ation for your snappy patter. You never fire it unless you intend to kill whatever it is you are aiming at. Oh well.

Nah, but once when one of my ex-bf's pulled a gun on me and put it to my skull after I'd told him how much I hated him and that it was over... I had to talk him down while finding the nearest 'something' and that 'something' was a sharp kitchen knife. It was so Jerry Springerish with a twist of HUGE local news at the time that, well, I just couldn't go out that way.
Escaped, called my girl and her hubby and they came to the rescue with shotguns and other gnarly stuff. Like I said, way too Jerry Springer for me but I survived. He lived. That's all that matters.
Since then, I keep knives everywhere. I'm talking everywhere.

Oh, I hear what you are saying but, shooting someone when you don't have to is insane.
On the same note, picking up a firearm without the will to use it if necessary is also insane.

I see your point...to a point. I have pulled a gun twice to difuse a situation and it worked like a charm. Once was a guy with a tire iron at a truck stop in AZ and the other was three guys with ball bats in my yard. I have no doubt if i would'nt have pulled my gun, I would have been hit. I also have no doubt that if they didnt stop after seeing the gun, they would have been hit. IMO if you pull a gun be "prepared" to use it but you dont "have" to use it.

Never pulled a gun...I'd be in considerably more trouble if I ever did owing to the illegal nature of it.
But I have used the martial arts I trained in for so long. On three occasions, once involving the escrima stick in which I have some training.
I'll leave it at that.

Never had to, but I carry one nearly every time I leave the house.
If I ever did pull my weapon it would be because I felt that I had to use it, not to display to try to defuse a situation.
If I feel the need to draw my weapon the situation is long past the defuse stage.

Hmmmm.... no, I'm not saying either of those things. I am observing that people who carry firearms on a daily basis tend not to use them as props for brandishing during an argument. Indeed, if a fight is about to ensue, they tend to drop the firearms before approaching each other. But then again, these are people who own weapons for their protection against harmful things sometimes found in nature, not as a tool to get leverage in a drug deal.

Well said. Cops pull guns and intimidate criminals into calming down all the time. Sometimes they still have to shoot, but many times the visible presence of a gun is enough to defuse a situation.

Well, okay.
My experience has not been inner-city. It's been rural and "diplomatic." In the diplomatic setting, the firearms are essentially on display but aren't to be used -- even to protect people's lives (depending on the station's rules of engagement).

Were he ever to present himself as an actual threat I wouldn't hesitate.
But Le Jackass is nothing but sound and fury, signifying nothing. He would no more show up looking to make his curb-stomping fantasies a reality than Michael Jackson is likely to rise from the dead (Zombie apocalypse not withstanding).
He's the perfect example of an internet e-badass.

Several times...also with a knife.
An example was at a remote gas station after 1am- 3 guys approached me at different angles shielded by the pumps and signage.
I racked the fuel hose, stepped away from my Harley and pulled my Glock.
I stepped into a clear area and announced to them to show their hands and step out from behind the obstructions.
They did and loosely told me they were going to ask if I had any to spare money for them to get gas for their car (no other vehicle was present).
I told them "no" and that they could leave the area where I could see them.
After they left I called the local PD and told them of the encounter leaving out that I had pulled my weapon. They said they'd have a patrol tour the area to check for the 3 men.
