Chess Boxing
Wheee!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chess_boxing
Quote:
|
A match between two opponents consists of up to eleven alternating rounds of boxing and chess sessions, starting with a four-minute chess round followed by three minutes of boxing and so on.[1] Between rounds there is a one minute pause, during which competitors change their gear. The form of chess played is speed chess in which each competitor has a total of twelve minutes for the whole game. Competitors may win by knockout, checkmate, a judge's decision or if their opponent's twelve minutes of chess time elapses.[1] If a contestant does not make a move in the chessround, he will be issued a warning by the referee and he must then make a move within the next 10 seconds.[2] Warnings may eventually result in disqualification.

I just heard an interview with the inventor on NPR. Pretty damn cool. Takes some kind of balls to box and then be able to play speed chess well.

Domo arigato, mr. roboto,
Mata ah-oo hima de
Domo arigato, mr. roboto,
Himitsu wo shiri tai
You're wondering who i am-machine or mannequin
With parts made in japan, i am the modren man
I've got a secret i've been hiding under my skin
My heart is human, my blood is boiling, my brain i.b.m.
So if you see me acting strangely, don't be surprised
I'm just a man who needed someone, and somewhere to hide
To keep me alive-just keep me alive
Somewhere to hide to keep me alive
I'm not a robot without emotions-i'm not what you see
I've come to help you with your problems, so we can be free
I'm not a hero, i'm not a saviour, forget what you know
I'm just a man whose circumstances went beyond his control
Beyond my control-we all need control
I need control-we all need control
I am the modren man, who hides behind a mask
So no one else can see my true identity
Domo arigato, mr. roboto, domo...domo
Domo arigato, mr. roboto, domo...domo
Domo arigato, mr. roboto, domo...domo
Thank you very much, mr. roboto
For doing the jobs that nobody wants to
And thank you very much, mr. roboto
For helping me escape just when i needed to
Thank you-thank you, thank you
I want to thank you, please, thank you
The problem's plain to see: too much technology
Machines to save our lives. machines dehumanize.
The time has come at last
To throw away this mask
Now everyone can see
My true identity...
I'm kilroy! kilroy! kilroy! kilroy!

I've heard of this but never seen it. People come up with some strange shit to do when they're bored.

I kinda like the idea of either requiring boxers to think or requiring chess masters to fight.

It's an interesting idea and one must wonder how well Bobby Fisher would have done.

No.
I have bragged about growing up in the same town as Ali and I have bragged about meeting celebs at parties but I will never ever brag about living down the road from Tommy Shaw. I have standards.

Really?
I always like Steve Perry and Journey. But then I'm pretty much tone deaf and ignorant of all things musical.

Honestly I never paid much attention to him. I knew him from Styx but only because everyone did. Wasn't my kind of music. I didn't even know he lived nearby until I was in a store with him once and the person with me told me who it was and went over to get his autograph.
