Minneapolis
A very nice city no doubt. But there is snow in the forecast for tonight and it's only mid-October. How do you people do it? How do you live there with over 6 months of winter?

Surviving Snow...
By reveling in it...
Snow Sculpture, Winter parades, Snow machines, skiing, dog sleding, quinzees, igloos, well insulated houses, snow shoes, damn good outerwear, snuggly spouses, layers...

It would drive me crazy. Simply getting up in the morning would be excruciating to say nothing of getting out of the car to go to work.

I'll always love Minneapolis, because Miss Oatlash and I met a Litizen there once, and had 48 hours of wicked, kinky sex.
I can't really comment on the city, though, because I never left the hotel room.

I noticed that when I was there in May. How does that work? is it only open certain hours of the day?

Some sections are open 24/7. Others are only open during the work week.

I live in Iowa, not too far away, and I must say...it sucks! I grew up in Phoenix, and this snow thing is a bitch! There are several things I have learned to survive: layers(!!), good boots, all season tires, and having a garage! The last one is key! Not having to deice your car, or brush snow off of it, or warm it up before you go anywhere...oh, and it makes not smoking in your house a lot more comfortable!

It's just snow and cold. Not really a big deal.
The skyway system in Minneapolis is outstanding. Whoever came up with that was brilliant. Not the idea so much as the design. Well done. Of course I only see it as a visitor. Those who live there might not think so.

Jogging along the river is better even in winter.

It's not so bad. It is a bit early, but whatever.
It went from 65-75 for a few weeks, and then suddenly dropped to 30's and 40's.
Snow is nothing. It's when you have winds that cause the windchill to be -50 to -60 below that sucks.

Yeah. You can get a ton of snow in relatively mild temps. It's the damn wind that kills ya. That and the idiots who can't drive in snow.

I couldn't deal with that either. At least you guys have the light rail. Does the snow hamper that from running?

Where I am in the Dakotahs, you'd think they never hear of snow the way they plow and sand. It's just awful

Light Rail runs during the snow, I can only think of one time it didn't run and I can't remember if it was the cold (something like -10, air temp) or if it was the level of ice on the rail.
And living here is just like anywhere else. We have gorgeous weather and horrible weather. Pros and cons. The state is absolutely gorgeous and we have almost everything you could want in Mpls. Where I am I can travel an hour and a half and be at the shores of Lake Superior or drive half an hour and be downtown at a club, drinking and dancing. Plus the number of pubs around here almost outnumber the people.

I'm sure May-September are nice, but I like it hot. I thought it was a wonderful city when I visited, but seeing those temps and snow in mid-October would just crush my spirits.
I know some people wouldn't want to deal with the heat in Florida but I enjoy it.

It's not unusual, snow in October. However this year has the makings of crushing some spirits around here.

There's a rollerblade track around the interior of the Metrodome. With lots of concession stands lining it, of course.

Visited Minneapolis about a year ago, and although the wind was brutal, and we had some snow, I wouldn't mind going there again.
Loved visiting the Guthrie Theatre, and we were able to stay in a loft just a block away from the Metrodome.
Hard to believe the Twins will be playing outside next season.
