Ardi
More information about human ancestors...
Quote:

An international team of scientists unveiled Thursday the results of 15 years of study of one of the oldest known human ancestors, Ardipithecus ramidus, which they say overturns much of what we know about human evolution.

Hah! I wondered if I was going to get a response along those lines.
That or "See? Evolution is bullshit! They keep finding out new stuff! We don't know ANYTHING!"

Exactly at what point in time do you think that your ancestors became "Human"?

Thats a good Question isn't it.
Recognizable as modern humans in any normal or common interaction.
Make your best guess.
I'm not laying a trap here I'm curious as to what people who believe differently than I do think about that.

'Modern humans' are defined by systematic tool-making and from cultural and socials expressions inferred from the archaeological evidence. Science's best guess is 200,000 years ago.

Well, I-man gives the accepted answer, though having "any normal or common interaction" involves more than genetics; that's a socialization-technology-culture-education issue as well.
What's your belief? I'm curious as well, and not especially belligerent about these things.

Ha! I should post my thesis on Out of Africa II to answer your question, but in a nutshell, 'modern human' is an arbitrary line in the sands of time. Archaeological evidence shows that from a biological perspective, 'modern humans' evolved about 300,000 to 500,000 years prior to that, though the mitochondrial evidence isn't complete.
200,000 years ago is the generally accepted answer because it displays the cleanest divide between proto and modern humans. I imagine in the future additional fossil evidence will move that line one way or another, but relative to the time-scale of our evolution, its irrelevant.

Which of these would, if any you consider human?

Yeah, that's more or less where I'm at. The question was actually directed at fgarvb1.
It's really hard to reckon in evolutionary timescales.

Hey, I find this stuff interesting!
Here is a shallow glimspe into my mind of this subject.

I am not going to go into much detail, mainly because I’m tired and lazy today.
Now having said that…
I’m one of Gods people. So I’m willing to listen and understand that he is NOT “human” and is not confined or constrained by time itself, rather only by his word or will.
One needs to understand that just because some lunatic bishop on his own claimed the world was three thousand years old doesn’t make it any more true than if I claimed I was the most intelligent man it the world. He had NO authority to do that. NONE.
Now could the world be as old as claimed? I see or know of no reason why it could not be. And I searched…quite a bit.
Do I think human like creatures were here on earth for hundreds of thousands or millions of years?
Sure…why not?
But and here is the thing. Were they “US”?
NO.
Why?
Because God said he killed off all but a very few that were descended from man (Adam) that He made and started over.
But the DNA is so close and leaves a trail through pre-history!
Well yeah. God is the original manufacturer; I expect a lot of things in the DNA to be similar.
If not I would be a little confused
More importantly God is said to have imparted or given us a soul, something animals do not have.
Takes some “faith”? Yes it does.
Thankfully I have that.

Animals dont have souls?
Humans do?
Who taught you that?
Some robe wearing tax cheat who flunked out of high school?
Faith? More like brainwashing and fear of the unknown if you ask me.
I dont believe in Ghosts.

I believe the definition of humanoid to be Ardi himself.
Opposing thumbs and begining to walk upright is my definition of humanoid.
Like I said in another thread. I also believe aliens visited earth 5000 years ago and I dont believe the mayan race was even human.
