Awakening the Magic (Closed for Sexual_Muse)

Growing up, our heroine likely knew she was different; she simply had no idea how different. When her parents told her that the monster under her bed was not real, she never really believed them. As she grew older, she would see things out of the corner of her eyes, things that made her nervous. Once or twice, it was enough to scare her nearly to death. Still, she made it through her childhood, and has moved on to college, where she will discover her fate.

What she will come to realize is that all the things she imagined or caught glimpses of were, and are, real. Werewolves prowl the night, occasionally clashing with vampires hunting for their next meal. Demons hide amongst humanity, pushing us to sin. Other horrors, some without even a name, exist and prey on people every night.

This is where our heroine, and others like her, come in. They belong to the bloodlines of the Magi, protectors of humanity against the predations of these other creatures. They can warp reality to their whim, so long as their will remains strong enough; those with a weak will often find that reality can, and will fight back. Most are found in their teenage years and taught what they need to know to control their powers, so that they can help keep the monsters in check. Our heroine, however, was born to a lost family; an ancestor of hers ran away from the bloodline, severing her line from others of her kind, and so she has made it to adulthood without knowledge of what she is capable of. She will learn soon, but will it be soon enough?

****
Looking for a female to play the heroine in this story. It will revolve around an unknowing Magi discovering her powers, and finding someone capable of teaching her. I will be playing multiple characters, to better facilitate the story (role filled now).

The Party

It was a crisp November night, a week before the University would empty for Thanksgiving break, and they had arrived at the house where the party was taking place. Thea's best friend Bonnie had asked her to come along, as she did not want to go alone, in case there was no one else there she knew or wanted to get to know. She had gotten an invitation to this party while out at a club a few nights before, from a guy she had given her number to, who had claimed it was going to be a huge deal.

The house, if nothing else, lived up to that phrase. It was a massive three-story house, which sat on at least three acres of land, which was all fenced in. They were let inside the gate upon showing their invitation, however, and directed where to park. There were a lot of other cars there; the part of the grounds where they were parking resembled the lot outside the football arena on game day.

On approaching the door to the house, it seemed as if most of the lights were on, and when they rang the doorbell, some pretty blond girl who looked hammered already let them in. It seemed that at least half the college population was there, and both Bonnie and Thea recognized people from class or from their dorm building. After falling in with a small group of these, it seemed the party was going well.

About an hour after arriving, Leucothea noticed someone watching her. He was coldly handsome, looking to be maybe a few years older than herself. The man was tall and slender, with short black hair, and green eyes that seemed focused on her. His clothing was clearly expensive; his jeans looked tailored, and though indoors he was wearing a light leather jacket. Even when she noticed, he did not look away, only smiled at her, not even bothering to glance at the people he was talking with. No matter how unsettling that might seem, something about him seemed to have planted a hook in Thea's mind, and she would find it difficult to ignore him.

"Come on Thea, please." Bonnie pleaded with big Bambi eyes. "You could relax for once and have some fun." Bonnie said it as if it were an offer more then a nonexistent chance of fate.

For a long moment all Thea did was look at Bonnie. She didn't want to go, it wasn't the way she wanted to spend the eve of her twenty first birthday, hell it wasn't the way she wanted to spend any day. "I hate parties." Thea sighed.

Bonnie flinched as Thea said those words not yet knowing them for the sign of defeat that they were. "There's sure to be hot guys and..."

Thea held up her hand not wanting to know anymore about this dooms day party she was going to. "You are so lucky your my best friend." In fact Bonnie was her only best friend and maybe only one of a handful that she would give most anything for. Much more, put up with. "I'm driving tho." Thea said through the squealing and jumping.

"Thank you, thank you, thank you!" Bonnie all but chanted as she hugged/squeezed Thea in half.

"Okay. Can't breath." Thea breathed.

"Sorry." Bonnie smiled releasing her friend. "I have to get ready. You have to get ready." With that Bonnie ran off and started to get ready, Thea herself following slowly.

Half an hour later the two women were ready. "I like this better." Bonnie told Thea referring to her outfit. Bonnie had made her change when she walked out of her room, saying that the plain shirt and loose jeans were not party material. So now here she was in a gussied up top that could kill paired with tight jeans and high heels.

Thea only rolled her eyes as she got into her Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon 4x4.

Her father had waked out on her mother and her when she was four to make a life of his own. And make a life of his own he did. There were rumors that he started an adult film agency but neither her mom or her cared to find out. That was until he showed up at their front door handing out money for her colleges years. But having saved her money already ready for school she got out of him her jeep. Made sure he paid for it too. Didn't matter how mad her mom was, to Thea it was worth it.

"So where did you find out about this party?" Thea asked again knowing that if she didn't get the answer the first time she wasn't going to get it this time. Or at least the truth.

"A friend." Bonnie purred as they were shown where to park.

"Ri-ight." Thea sighed parking and quickly getting out.

"Lets go have some fun!" Laughed Bonnie grabbing on to Thea's arm, pulling her inside.

The party while wildly fun for others, was a bore for her. Thea was mostly here to watch over Bonnie make sure that nothing happened to her. A glance at her watch told that they had been her a little over an hour. Thea rolled her eyes waiting for things to get better.

A chill ran down her spine running goosebumps over her skin. The kind of chill that came with freaky stalkers and mass murdering fuck heads. In the corner stood a finely dressed man staring at her. Even as she looked at him with cold ice blue eyes he didn't look away. Instead he smiled at her. Smiled. Again that chill ran through her.

"Bonnie." Thea hissed moving behind her friend. "There's a guy staring at me." She subtly pointed at the guy with a flick of her head. "He's still staring at me."

Bonnie followed Thea's nod and smiled. "Oooh. He's cute." Giggle Bonnie.

"You mean strange." Huffed Thea as she crossed her arms under her chest. "I swear he hasn't looked away since I felt him staring at me."

"Well look how hot you are." Bonnie smiled playfully smacking her best friends ass. "Go talk to him. If you don't want him pass him my way." She winked.

"You're impossible!" Thea whispered. "And I'm not talking to him."

"Oh yes you are. Live a little." Bonnie was maybe five' six" and was on the swimming team and was a lot stronger and evil then she looked. "Come on." Bonnie shackled Thea's arm and started to pull, dragging her towards the good looking man.

"Bonnie stop." Thea urged pulling back. "Bonnie. Bonnie." Yelped Thea drawing attention, the last thing she wanted. "I'm so getting you back for this." She glared at Bonnie's smiling face.

"Be nice." Teased Bonnie as she all but shoved Thea into the man.

A quick recovery kept Thea from touching the guy. As much as she wanted to turn and leave being almost shoe to shoe with the man left her little to no options. "You know it's rude to stare." Snapped Thea. This man made her uncomfortable and she don't want anything to do with him.

"I am sorry, truly," the man responded, that inviting smile still on his lips, "But it is not often one sees an angel in a room as full of sin as this one is right now." His emerald eyes sparkled as they remained on hers, his voice sounding smooth and confident, "My name is Eric, and you must forgive me for being so lax in welcoming everyone to my home. Still, I hope you have been able to find anything you might want or need." As he introduced himself, he offered Thea his hand, whether she took it or not.

Bonnie was talking to one of the guys who had been near Eric, apparently one of the man's closer friends, so she was close, but involved in her conversation. Which was a good thing, as a woman nearby with long black hair seemed to be giving her a jealous stare ever since she had been pushed into their host.

"So, how long have you been going to school here?" Eric asked her after a moment, seeming to make the rather safe assumption that she was a student, "I graduated a few years ago myself, but my family has lived in the area since I was young." The music in the background had gotten a bit louder, but was still not enough to impede talking, and just a glance in the other room showed that the dancing had grown a bit more lewd, which was to be expected in a room full of drunk college students with no supervision.

"I am sorry, truly, but it is not often one sees an angel in a room as full of sin as this one is right now."

Thea tried not to roll her eyes. She wasn't one for cheesy pick up lines. If only people knew her. All they saw was a curvy petite girl, not the easily angered, hot tempered smart ass bitch that she could be. "If you've seen an angel it sure as hell wasn't me." Thea couldn't help but mutter under her breath.

"My name is Eric, blah, blah, blah something about about this being his house."

"Thea." She offered crossing her arms under her chest when he extended his hand in greeting. She wasn't one that was comfortable with physical contact.

"Been going here for a year or two." Thea answered a few moments.

As much as she didn't want to talk to the man, Eric, she found herself asking questions. "What did you study?" Thea kept her closed of body position and she quickly scanned the room again. Looking for Bonnie, exits and counting people and possible dangers. Thea wasn't quit sure as to where she picked up this habit but she did it quite often while in a unfamiliar place.

"I majored in Roman History, though I am sure the details of that would bore you. I know it does most of my guests," Eric responded, having withdrawn his hand already. It was clear that his charms were not working as normal with Thea, but it didn't slow him at all, "So, are you always this tense, or did I make that spectacular of an impression?" As he spoke, the look in his eyes changed slightly, from simple appreciation, to something more weighing, as if he were appraising her for something, eying her from over the edge of his glass, which seemed to have rum & Coke in it.

There were any number of exits from the room they were in, but the only ones other than the front door that would take them outside the building were the closed windows. She had yet to see a back or side exit from the house, but it was large enough that it was not, in and of itself, strange. Other than the size of the place, it seemed like any other college party, really. Bonnie, by this point, was already snuggling up to the guy she was talking to, their talking gone very soft.

"Roman history." Thea couldn't help but perk up at the news that she and this Eric, who she had already tagged as a stalker, had something in common. "No it wouldn't bore me. I'm a cultural anthropology student with a passion for archaeology. I like old dead things and finding put with people back then liked them as well." Thea gave a small smile that didn't quite make to her eyes. "Woo-hoo black and white films."

"Your impression strikes me as possible restraining order case." Thea bit off sourly. "I'm just not the biggest fan of large groups of people who I don't know, in an area I don't know. Then there is Bonnie." Thea only looked at her best friend to get the message across. "She likes to have a fun time but sometimes trouble likes to follow. I protect that which is mine." As Thea said that she realized that it would over protective, which it was. She couldn't help it tho. All her life she would make a friend and watch and protect them with all she had. Fighting their fights in fear of them harming themselves. "So yeah I guess I always am this tense."

As Bonnie slid deeper into the shadows with the man with no name she automatically shifted her body about 45 degrees, keeping her in the corner of her eyesight. Unfortunately it brought her a tad closer to Eric but that was a risk she was willing to take.

A step closer tho had Thea looked deeper into this man. There was a wave of power about this man that had her body on high alert, tingling with awareness of not only a man but something else. A something else that lingered on the tip of her tongue. The lingering had Thea grinding her teeth, she hated when that happened. It was like knowing something but having the skill not to retrieve it. The ore she stared at Eric the more the 'something' burned her. Thea allowed herself the relief of not ever coming across this 'something' sin hopes that it would ease the burning. But alas it did just the opposite. As smooth as silk a shrill ringing in her body screamed at her that she should know what this 'something' is.

"Urg! What is it about you?" Thea grunted in despair. "Something." She waved her hand up and down Eric's body. "Something there but what?" The question was more directed at herself and the fact that she didn't have the answer had her rolling her hands into fist so hard her nails bit into her palm. "You irk me." Thea said at last not having yet look away from Eric since she started to stare at him.

Since she did show an interest in his field of expertise, Eric was about to begin talking about it, then the tirade began about what she thought of him.

"Your impression strikes me as possible restraining order case. I'm just not the biggest fan of large groups of people who I don't know, in an area I don't know. Then there is Bonnie. She likes to have a fun time but sometimes trouble likes to follow. I protect that which is mine."

Eric grinned slightly at the outburst, and glanced over at Bonnie, shaking his head. "I assure you, no harm will come to your friend, Thea, though I suspect she might find your declaration of ownership a bit odd. Still, that is between you and she, if she should hear about it," their host told her, though it didn't seem to stop her from changing position so that she could keep her friend in sight. He was not about to complain, since it brought her closer to him.

Then she began to talk to herself, or so it seemed, but her words made Eric's face change to one of thoughtfulness. When she waved her hands at him, telling him that he irked her, he stepped toward her, and made eye contact with her as he spoke, "You don't seem well. Maybe you should follow me to somewhere you can relax." Something about the way he emphasized the words 'follow me' implanted them in her consciousness, and despite her better judgement, she found she had no choice but to do so.

He led her to the stairs that went into the upper stories of the house, and when they got to the second floor, they were mostly alone. Occasionally, they crossed paths with couples exiting or entering spare bedrooms, with grins on their faces that told what they had been up to. Finally, he led her into a room lined with books; a study of some sort, with a table in the center and an antique desk off to the side. Once he closed the door, the fog on her mind that had caused her to follow him wore off. As if he knew it, he smiled and told her, "There, now you are away from the crowds, maybe you can calm down. You seemed to be having quite a fit downstairs."

"Yeah well it's not that she hadn't head it before." Thea muttered under her breath at Eric's cocky grin.

She wasn't so mad at Eric, per say, but just the vibe that she got from the guy and the uncomfortable surroundings. There was just something about him that reminded her of something, maybe? Her hand ran through her hair in annoyance. She just couldn't name what it was.

"You don't seem well. Maybe you should follow me to somewhere you can relax."

There was a tug in his voice that compelled Thea to listen, to follow him no matter how unlike it was of her to leave her friend. The stairs that she had told herself that she wouldn't go up earlier that evening, she found herself venturing up them. Still following a man she didn't know. And while a voice in the back of her mind screamed that she shouldn't be doing this, Thea at the moment couldn't find a fault in following Eric past unknown people, a hand full of doors into a room. A study so it seemed.

"What?" The thread that seemed to pull Thea after Eric, that had just moments ago been pulled taunt was just cut and the little voice came raging up to speak it's mind. "It wasn't a fit." Thea tried to counter but she knew that if she were on the streets doing something like that she would be tagged as a crazy. "Much." She sighed running her hand through her hair again. A nervous and annoyed tick of hers that she was well aware of but just couldn't seem to break.

Like always Thea had done a quick scan over the room when she had first entered it but a second look had her going over it slowly. "These are old." Thea said more to herself then to Eric as she drifted towards the antique desk. She had been ready, tooth and nail, to get answers out of Eric. Like why was she here and why did she follow him? But the old leather bound tomes had distracted her enough that she forgot her fighting nature for a moment and fell into her passion. "Wow." Thea turned a bit better look at the books on the walls and realized that none of these books were 'normal'. And by normal Thea meant nothing that you would normally find in a person's home study.

Mind sharp again, temper quieted Thea kindly asked the same questions that she had wanted to know before but without all the tooth and nails. "So you brought me up here because of a 'fit'? Why not just call me crazy and be gone with it? Why go through the trouble of saving me?" And painful as it was Thea tore her gaze away from the books and gave her attention to Eric, awaiting an answer.

I'm so sorry that took so long. Things just kept coming put in life that had me busy in other places. I do hope you are still willing to write with me. If not, again I'm sorry, it's been a pleasure writing with you and I'm sorry for taking up all that time. But I do still hope that you're willing to keep going with this.

Eric smiled when she seemed distracted by the books on the shelves, though inwardly he was somewhat concerned with the fact that she might recognize any of them, or understand what any of the titles referred to. "Yes, they are very old," he told her, despite the fact that she had been mainly talking to herself, "Very old, and very hard to get my hands on. Luckily, I have connections that deal in old items such as these." Of course, he was not going to mention that some of those connections were, themselves, older than the books in question.

"So you brought me up here because of a 'fit'? Why not just call me crazy and be gone with it? Why go through the trouble of saving me?"

Her question certainly seemed a reasonable one, given the situation. "Well, a couple of reasons, the first of which was a purely selfish desire to be alone with such a beautiful and intelligent woman," he grinned at her mischievously as he went on answering her, "Second, whatever needed to be done about your growing hostility, I didn't want to happen in front of my guests. Lastly, I wanted to help you if at all possible. It would be quite rude to just dismiss one of my guests as a lunatic, would it not?"

Thea gave a lazy shrug in answer to Eric's question. "I wouldn't blame you for leaving the crazy girl alone to rock and talk to herself in a corner. Gods only know why you're the one kind soul to try and save her. Even if your blurred vision somehow saw 'beautiful and intelligent'." It was Thea's attempt of a half assed apology. Or at least as close as she was going to get to one with Eric.

And as much as Thea wanted to grill the man, there was a pull as great as Eric's voice that had her distracted. "And I'm not that hostel." She tried in defense of herself but even that was faded in tone and voice as she once again turned towards the books. "But I'm intrigued. What kind of help would I be needing from a man I just met tonight?"

Something had her nervous, Thea cold tell by all the subject changes she was jumping from. Normally she wasn't this talkative with strangers and her conversations had a better flow. Yet here was was again skip jumping from one thing to another.

"Nice house. Impressive book collection. I'm guessing a carport of insanely expensive import cars. So what and who are you? Drug dealer, Porn King? Republican?" Thea tossed over her shoulder at Eric.

"Is there some kind of library card system that you have that I can get into?" Thea asked as she slowly wondered the shelves of books. Sad thing was she wasn't kidding. There were books here that she had never even heard of in languages she had never seen. Not that that surprised her much, Thea did't know every language out there but she was willing to give it her all in understanding what it all meant.

"And I'm not that hostile. But I'm intrigued. What kind of help would I be needing from a man I just met tonight?"

"I don't think I've had enough to drink yet tonight to blur my vision, but the only help I was referring to was getting you someplace where you could relax and calm down," he responded, "And helping you matters to me because...well, you could say I was raised to be a better host than that." Slowly, he walked closer to her, to remain just barely outside of arm's reach from her, as if carefully measuring the distance. Part of it was a desire to be closer to her, but part of it was also to keep an eye on which books caught her interest the most, if any of them.

"Nice house. Impressive book collection. I'm guessing a carport of insanely expensive import cars. So what and who are you? Drug dealer, Porn King? Republican?"

Leaning against the desk, he could not help but chuckle at her assumptions before answering her, "There are a few domestics in the garage, actually, but as to those last three, I have to say 'none of the above'. I'm just lucky enough to have come from a good family, and politically I'm...independent." He then listened to her ask about the possibility of borrowing books in her offhanded way, and it was then that he drew just a bit closer, close enough to touch her if he reached out, though he did not do so, and answered her, a wry grin on his lips "Well, if I thought it would work, I'd offer to let you borrow them at the rate of a kiss each. But I've already seen how well my charms seem to affect you."

"And helping you matters to me because...well, you could say I was raised to be a better host than that."

The fact that a person could just be nice to be nice kind of knocked Thea back. Enough so that her walls were failing to be rough, tough and intimidating. "Wow." Thea whistled. "A nice guy."

Thea slowly turned so that she was facing Eric. A look on her face was one of concern with a slight touch of fear. Her whole childhood she had been scared of every little thing. The sounds at night, the weird flashes of light during the day, the things she saw moving in the corner of her eye and the words that she swore she heard in the wind. She had told her parents, they just brushed it off. She told her friends and they laughed and teased her. The more she tried to speak about it to her parents the more worried they got for her and in the end turned her over the a shrink. It was then that Thea had given up on finding someone who was just willing to listen and not call her crazy or case her as having an over active imagination. It was also around that time that she stared to be mean and angry. You con't be cared of something if you are madder then scared at it.

Lost in thought as she was, Thea didn't even notice that Eric had stepped closer. "And if I told you I really was crazy would you still be here trying to help me? If I was to tell you that the wind spoke words to me? That images danced in the mirrors of the sea?" Thea met Eric's eyes and sadly smiled. "Still want to help me?"

When Eric took another step towards her it suddenly hit her as to how close her was.

"Well, if I thought it would work, I'd offer to let you borrow them at the rate of a kiss each. But I've already seen how well my charms seem to affect you."

A kiss a book... It was an offer that Thea was willing to risk. "Well at least you're cheap." Thea shrugged. "That book over there. Blood leather bound cased in ogham script? Is that still priced at a kiss?" That book made her fingers tingle as she swept her hand over the shelf. There were in face a few that brought that sensation forth but she was somewhat familiar with ogham so she figured that that would be a good start.

For once, it took a good deal of effort on Eric's part to cover his emotions as she mentioned these things. She couldn't be a Magi, could she, one that had not yet learned to harness her powers? He kept the thought to himself, primarily to keep the entire situation calm. Instead, he let her change the subject back to the 'price' he had put on the borrowing of books, and looked at the one she asked about in particular.

"An esoteric work, that one. I think the author may have been out of his mind on opium, or maybe some ancient hallucinogen I've never heard of, when he wrote it. He was still a genius, however," he said, walking over to where the book sat on the shelf, without a speck of dust on it. Taking it out, he held it in his hands; most people would think it pure insanity, even if they could read it; he knew that it contained far more truth than he would ever admit to a mere mortal. "If you are as crazy as you claim, I don't know that reading this would be a good idea, but you're a big girl, and I'll let you use your own judgment," he told her, then gave her an inviting smile, "The price is the same that I mentioned before, though, and quite a bargain considering the rarity of this particular tome." Also, it contained no secrets of his own people, so it was little risk to allow her to read it, being primarily concerned with shapeshifters.

"Yeah but there are things that are better seen from a crazy person's perceptive." Thea shrugged. "I figure that people of mass genius either do drugs or goes crazy."

Reaching out Thea took the book in her hands. A large smile came to her lips, the book seemed warm. "Can a person such as me really get even more crazy?" Standing there weighting the tome in her hands almost had Thea kissing Eric.

"Whats to say I don't kiss you leave with your book and never return?" Thea asked, eyebrow raised in question. "You can't possibly be nice and trusting." Slipping past Eric she moved over to the table that was in the middle of the room.

Hip resting on the table, Thea placed the book flat and thumb through a few of the pages with careful fingers. The pages weren't brittle or yellowed as she would have expected. "Kiss for a borrowed book..." A picture of a phouka filled the page and sent a rack of chills down her spine. "Have you ever notice that the ugly creatures are more then likely nicer then the pretty or cute ones." Thea closed the book and tapped her fingers on the table.

Somehow, this woman was testing Eric's self-control in ways he had thought he was long past. When she moved past him, he bit his lip for a moment, though he never seemed to worry that she would escape him. Worry wasn't the term for what he felt; excitement was one that certainly applied, however. As she looked down at the book, he moved toward her again, this time standing behind her and looking over her shoulder down at the page she opened it to. "Madness is is not a straight line," he said, his words now soft and close to her ear, "Its more like a never-ending spiral: there is always further to go." He did not mention her hypothetical escape with his book, but added, "And for the record, I don't believe you to be as far along that spiral as you think."

"Oh, it is the beautiful creatures that one should be most wary of, I am sure. They are also, usually, the most exciting to be around. Sort of a predicament, don't you think?" he asked her after she closed the book, that smirk still on his lips. He did not trap her between himself and the table, but it was close enough that she would need to brush past him physically to get away again. Eric showed no signs of budging, seeming to enjoy the proximity to her.

"Maybe, maybe not." Thea shrugged again. "Or maybe I'm perfectly normal playing you for crazy to get pity and whatever else I might benefit from this act." She turned to look back at him only to come face to face with Eric. "Well hello there." Breathed the startled girl not expecting Eric to be right there.

Being this close to Eric had her staring in to his eyes. She had never met someone with eyes like his. The more she stared the more shades of green she could see. It was like a forest during a windy day, leaves of all shades falling and swirling together as they fall to the ground. It was hypnotic.

"Until they lure you off into the distance and eat you. Which seems to be the M.O. of the cute and cuddly, sexy and wanton creatures of myth." Thea countered in a monotone voice, still caught up in Eric's eyes.

That feeling of growing pressure in her mind came back with ferocity. The blinding blinking pain that doesn't yet hurt but has all the ability to do so. A quickened hiss of air made it almost to a cry of pain when Thea shifted and brushed up against Eric. The contact had been in her forearm and the moment she touched him there was a pain like no other jolt through her arm. It was like getting stabbed and when she pulled back to look at her arm, Thea half expected there to be blood.

"What the hell was that?" Thea demanded, walls once again firmly in place with the occurrence of pain. Rechecking her forearm for sights of a wound or a mark, anything to show that she wasn't just being crazy, once again.

He had been about to answer her when she suddenly began to react as if in pain. Not just the minor annoyance usually associated with phantom pains, Thea was acting as if she had been stabbed, right where they touched. The odd behavior was seeming less and less like a coincidence, especially with her earlier talk of the wind speaking to her and images on the waters. She had to be a nascent Magi; it was the only way to explain the strangeness, and he knew that he needed to put a stop to it, to her, before things got out of hand.

Eric's demeanor shifted as she demanded an answer from him that he could not give. The look on his face was no longer amused: he was now clearly concerned, maybe even worried. His mouth opened slightly, and she would see his canine teeth seem to grow longer, just before he launched himself at her with speed the likes of which should have been impossible. She had no time to react as she felt his hands, which were both as strong as iron and as cold, gripping her shoulders as he moved to bite her neck.

Then it happened. She had no idea how, but she could feel the air between her and Eric coalesce, becoming as hard as granite. Somehow, she felt as if she were making it happen, as impossible as that sounded. Before his teeth could break her skin, that part of her that she didn't understand pushed somehow, and the air between them flew away from her, carrying her assailant with it. By the time she could register what was going on, he was pinned to the wall by the invisible wedge, his eyes wide with terror.

There was a glint of white and Thea could see Eric's teeth, teeth that was straight out a Anne Rice book. "Eric." Thea whispered, a thread of fear curling in her stomach. There was no change in Eric's face, other then the loss of all emotions bearing softness.

Without warning Eric launched himself at her. Things had turned a complete 180 and there was a fear in Thea that she hadn't felt since she was a young child. A soundless scream tore from her lips as his hands grabbed her. It was like the cold of death that clutched to her shoulders.

'No!!!' Thea's mind screamed, panic taking over. Thea grasped at anything and nothing not being close enough to anything worth a shit. 'Stop.' Her mind was a mess, there was a howl of sound, something constricted her body till there was no breath and suddenly release.

Eric was thrown across the room, pinned to the wall by a transparent figure that she only saw from the corner of her eye. Every time she tried to look at the figure it would dissapeared, without quite looking at it there Thea could breaths of frost swirling over Eric.

"Okay." Thea spoke in a shaky still frightened voice. "What the HELL is going on?" She had backed herself as far from Eric as she could but ever from across the room she could see the whites of his eyes. Was is fear in Eric's eyes or rage? "Will you please tell me whats going on?" Without looking at herself Thea knew that her eyes would be a marbled mix of her normal ice blue and a dark royal blue. "So please tell me I've fallen into some sci-fi star trek nightmare." The bookshelf that she had pressed herself into was starting to cut into her back but Thea welcomed the pain as a sanctuary from her fear.

The look in Eric's eyes was a mix of both fear and rage, but he was having difficulty speaking due to the crushing weight on his chest that held him to the wall. He didn't need to breath anymore, but speaking still required him to push air through his vocal cords, so his voice was very labored when he spoke, "M-magi. Can't...let you live." It was clear he was trying to push whatever was holding him off, but was having no luck so far. "Ancient war...your kind trying to...wipe us out," he continued on, since he could not get out of the trap that held him, then something seemed to occur to him, and he tried to stare into her eyes again, similarly to what he had done downstairs before leading her up to this room, "Release me."

Once again, she felt an initial urge to follow his order, though she had no clue how she would have done so, but the same force that had allowed her to push him against the wall seared the tendrils of his control out of her mind. When he saw that it had no effect, he just growled and gave it one last try to get away from the force holding him against the wall. When it was clear he was not going to be able to, he looked at her, suddenly seeming tired, or possibly bored, and saying, "Well, end it already. Or do you even know how?" Eric's question made him laugh, a ragged sound with his chest being crushed as it was.

Thea stood there confused as possible. Her hand ran through her hair and her head tilted to the side. For a moment her mind just blanked in hopes that it would help clear her mind.

"You talk as if your not human." The thought dawned on Thea.

There was a tug on her mind as Eric tried to command her to release him. The same tug that her pulled her into following him up into this room. Once her mind realized that it was easy for Thea to ignore Eric's jedi mind games.

'By the Gods!' Gasp! Confident now that Eric was fixed to the wall Thea made her way over to Eric. Standing just outside of his reach Thea squinted up at Eric and tried to see more then was there. Long canines, cold skin, inhuman strength. A closer look also relieved that Eric wasn't breathing. That what it looked like, it hadn't be proven true yet. Thea told her self to keep calm.

"Magi? You, as in a people other then me..." Thea was talking out loud trying to figure this out. "Like what?" Thea bit her bottom lip in thought. The mind told her vampire but she refused to listen. There had to be another answer that made more sense.

Eric's voice broke her train of thought. "No. No I don't." Thea looked up at Eric again. She could still see his anger in his eyes but for the most part he seemed calmer. "I'm not trying to kill you so how about you try not to kill me, okay." Thea took a step closer to Eric. "So what is a Magi and what are you?"

Eric could only watch helplessly as she debated what she had seen so far in her mind. It was a good thing for him that he didn't need to breath, or he might have died as she thought things over. Then she stepped forward, and at her offer of peace, he couldn't keep from laughing, "Its not as if...I have a choice. I can't very well kill you while pinned to the wall like this," he said, somewhat surprised that he was still held there. The last Magi he'd confronted had only been able to hold something like this for a minute or two; this Thea was going to be strong, it appeared. Still, it had to end sometime, so answering a few questions might buy him necessary time.

"You're going to learn this anyway, so I suppose I would be breaking no laws. I'm a vampire," he paused a second to let that statement sink in, "And what humanity knows of us is true in a general sense, but some of the details are wrong, or don't apply to all of us. As for Magi, your kind are human in most ways, but able to bend reality to your whim. They use their abilities to protect lesser humans from the 'monsters' of the world, or so they claim." As his explanation went on, there was a loosening of the barrier that held him, just enough that he was able to speak without pushing himself too hard, but not enough that he could get free...yet.

"And if I were the one holding you and found a way to release you, would you kill me then?" Thea took another step closer, wanting to press Eric's control. It wasn't so much courage that had her moving forward but mild stupidy. Like the kid who wanted to pet the lion at the zoo because it was safe, it was behind bars how could it not be? Only to lose his hand by the end of it.

It was strange, the moment the truth came out there was no chill of fear, shock or anything. Just a comfort that maybe her life was normal in it's own sence ans it really be a truth, not just something so told herself to feel better.

All of Eric's words sounded true, it even tasted of it. Tasted of it? Thea's mind asked without answer. "So who descides the monsters from the heros?" Thea asked instead. "What makes you a monster?" It was a true enough question. Thea had read the Anita Blake vampire books, not all vampires were bad. Who's to say that Eric was a baddie? Maybe it was a case wrongly judged just because of his race. Heck they did it to the blacks back in the bad, why not vampires?

Being this close to danger, to Eric was thrilling. From this angle she could clearly see his long teeth and lovely green eyes. Eyes that had Thea loosing herself in again. "Were you born a vampire or made into one?" She figured that if Eric was answering one of her questions maybe he would answer more.

"You are the one holding me, Thea. If there was another of your kind here, I'd be dead already," he told her, wishing that her hold on him would dissipate. Of course, then he would have to hope that she didn't figure out how to repeat the effect; this had to be some instinctive manifestation of her powers. "If you'll allow me to live, I see no reason I can't do the same," he responded, though he knew it was stupid to do so. If what she had already done was any indication, she was too powerful to allow a teacher to find her. Still, it was the only choice he seemed to have at the moment.

Then she asked questions about who decided what 'monsters' were, and all he could do was laugh. "That, I have no idea about, though I've heard that they consider anything supernatural other than themselves 'monsters'," Eric explained to her, "How the Magi make such decisions is beyond me. All I know is what one of them spewed at me as he tried to kill me a couple of years ago. And I was made into a vampire, a long time ago." Finally, the barrier dissipated enough that he was able to slip out of it, landing on his feet with his back against the wall. He watched her warily, looking for any sign that she would do something else to him.
