A good day, albeit a bit painful
I took the fuel lines off the Carbs this morning then drained the tank for the bike. Off we went with the fuel lines in hand to do some shopping. A stop at the local shop and I ordered the parts I need for the rebuild of the carbs. This was followed by a stop at the local auto parts place where I picked up the fuel lines, filter and Carb. Cleaner. (PLus a couple of other toys.)
This afternoon I started in on the carbs themselves. Tops and bowls were removed. Parts were taken out and dumped in the bucket of cleaner. The Carb. Bodies were hosed down liberaly with spray cleaner. Now you're supposed to wear Nitril Gloves while doing this but I forgot to pick some up. Oh well. Everything is looking nice and clean now.
Now comes the painful part. For the past many years I have been dealing with a minor inconvenience on my right hand. I get these small pustules in my skin. You can't see them unless you look close. I don't feel them. They show up and stay there until they burst when they grow out. The only things the M.D.'s can think of is it's a reaction to some kind of chemical exposure in my past. (That wouldn't surprise me.) Like I said, not a big deal.
Unfortunately the Carb. Cleaner I am using is somewhat caustic. My hands are a nice shade of pink because it took off some of the top layers of skin. When it did that it opened up every one of the pustules in my hand. I can now tell you where every one of them is. Think of papercuts and rubbing alchohol. Oh well.
When the rest of the parts come in I'll put the carbs back together and we'll see what happens.
