Rep. Rangel's Ethics Allegations
October 7, 2009
Rep. Charles B. Rangel has been dogged by ethics probes and tax controversies for more than a year. The House is investigating Rangel's alleged ethical violations. Among the items it is looking at:

•Rental Apartments: Rangel rented four apartments in Harlem at below-market rates while claiming his D.C. home as his primary residence for tax purposes.

•Resort Villa: Rangel failed to disclose rental income from his resort villa in the Dominican Republican on his federal or state tax returns. The House is also probing whether Rangel received a sweetheart deal to finance his ownership interest in the resort.

•Fundraising: Rangel used congressional stationery to seek donors for a public policy center in his name at City College of New York.

•Car Storage: Rangel violated House rules by storing his Mercedes in a House parking lot.

•Tax Loophole: Rangel helped preserve a loophole that benefited an oil drilling company — just as its CEO donated $1 million to an educational center in Rangel's name at CCNY.

Violating Gift Rules: Rangel and four other Democrats took trips to the Caribbean that were funded by the Carib News Foundation.

Rangel also filed amended disclosure forms last summer in which he admitted that he previously had failed to report hundreds of thousands of dollars in income and assets, including tens of thousands of dollars in rental income from a Harlem brownstone he sold in 2004.

He's like their designated driver.

He agrees to be the most ethically challenged member of the House, so the others look good by comparison.

Rangel's favorite book is "Moral Compass: The Ted Kennedy Story."

He's black and Democrat.

Did you not notice how long it took justice to come to William Jefferson?

To notice any wrong-doing, as a Democrat, would be a self-induced outing as a closet racist.

That's pretty much the fact of it. The democrats and the press seem to only be able to see the color of a mans skin.

Doublespeak...

Classic; in the name of doing good, as Hayek points out (and Rand) you accept things in the name of the ends that would not pass your morality had you not willingly suspended it in the name of a "greater" good...

This is what happens in a party where "judging" people is more immoral than their own hurtful and illegal actions and follies.

Not judging per se' bro. They will willingly accept behavior within their own ranks that they would call for a lynching if that individual were not one of their own. The willing suspension of morals is spot on though.

I think most of the benefit of citing books that others probably don't care about occurs during the first 200 mentions.

After that, it just seems silly. IMHO.

Ahh, so that's where the story about her keeping her clit in a jock strap comes from.
