Buono v. Salazar on Oct. 7

I'm going to try and go listen to some of this argument. Separation of church and state is an interesting issue.

I won't go if it rains though.

My general opinion: People get too worked up over bullshit.

My specific opinion: The Constitution provides freedom OF religion, not freedom FROM religion.

Seperation of church and state is an ideal. It is not specified in the constitution but is implied and has been generally accepted as such.
It has been taken to extremes for no reason other than because someone wanted to whine and has been nearly ignored because some simply don't care about anyone who thinks differently than they do.
The basic problem is that there isn't the proverbial fine line to walk. There is no all or none because religion plays a part in everyones life in one way or another. It's impossible to be totally free of it.
Best thing to do is what we've been doing and leave well enough alone.

I think that's what I think.

People need to shut the hell up about a manger scene in the public square. It's just not that big of a deal. Hell, every military base I've ever been to has had at least one church. Some even had a cross on top!

Congress has a chaplain; In God We Trust; Father Mulcahy still serves in the military; and so on...

This Buono (which is a fun word to say) case should be interesting with the current make-up of the court.

I thought from the thread title that this was some middleweight bout.

Perhaps it is, in another way.

Anyway, this is exactly the sort of thing that makes the ACLU a laughingstock in certain circles. This cross hurts nobody. It's in the frickin' Mojave desert, for crying out loud.

I hope they rule in favor of the cross 9-0 and make the ACLU pay costs.

Is basic training you're essentially punished if you don't go to a religous service. They don't call it punishment of course but everyone knows that if you want life to be a tad easier then you go. It's amazing how many atheists are in church in boot camp.

Typically I'm heavily in favor of keeping things seperated but this is one of those "who really gives a fuck" moments. It's a stupid case brought about by some whiny fucks who just can't leave something alone.

Well, this thread wasn't the barn-burner I thought it would be so lets talk about me for a while.

This morning I drafted and filed Articles of Organization for a new LLC. I didn't really need to form an LLC, but I thought of a very clever name and logo... so I decided to do it.

I'm going to put some money in the LLC and then invest in a local shopping center. I'm thinking about giving the profits away to people in need that I see on my local evening news.

...you know, like when a mother is on the news crying because her son was shot and she can't afford the funeral. I'm going to send a check in the name of the LLC to cover it. The ownership of an LLC is anonymous so I could do it without fear of being put in the limelight.

I'm sure you know the shopping center that's getting torn down, and rebuilt as a newer, bigger, better shopping experience!

I really did just like the clever name, and $100 to form the LLC is cheap entertainment. The innerwebs make things too easy.
