Erika was always wanted to settle down and have a family and have a loving husband. She had all that up until a year ago. She had a husband whom she loved and she had two boys, at times they could be rambunctious but she loved them nonetheless. Erika was a substitute school teacher and her husband worked for a law firm. They had a good marriage until things just began to fall apart. It was neither of their faults but, the connection simply wasn't there. The two got divorced which left Erika with the two boys in such a big house. Her ex-husband came by on the weekends to pick up the boys. He usually had the boys on weekends. Erika had been seeing this guy named Jason but he wasn't really her cup of tea. He was good for pleasure but other than that, he was like a door knob. Her ex-husband was seeing some blond bimbo who Erika didn't particularly like. Her ex-husband respected that Erika had "moved on" so, Erika thought she'd do the same for her ex. The truth of the matter was that she never did get over her ex-husband. Even after their divorce, he knew her well and she liked to believe she knew her ex better than his latest bimbo.

When Erika heard the knock on the door, she knew her ex was here to pick up the boys. Erika was supposed to go out with Jason but he canceled which didn't surprise Erika. Erika was wearing her favorite pair of jeans and a buttoned down shirt that showed her curvy self. "Come in, the boys should be right down." She said. Even though she didn't like her ex's bimbo of choice right now, the two were still on somewhat good terms.

David got out of his car and just looked at his old house for a moment. Every time he came to pick up the boys he was reminded of the days he lived here with his family. Being apart from them still felt wrong but Erika and he had agreed to split. He still loved her but knew she had moved on. His current relationship was nothing near as serous as what he had with Erika. Not as satisfying either. Sometimes he wondered if she felt the same way but doubted it. She had moved on a while ago and David hoped he could do the same one day.

He was a tall man with a decent build. Apprentice was important in his line of work so he devoted the time it took to stay in shape. His eyes were blue and his hair was still brown without a need to dye it. He was coming from the office so he still wore a brown suit.

Walking up to the door David gave it a few quick knocks and waited. Finally Erika opened it and he couldn't help but notice how good she looked. Apparently once the boys were gone she expected company. "Hey." He said still having to cut himself off from calling her by a pet name or going in for a hug and kiss.

She let a small smile come across her lips as she opened the door for him but behind her fake smile, there was a hint of sadness. She missed him, that much she knew. She missed his tender touch or his soft words. But she, too, knew that he had moved on. He was seeing some blond model who was nothing but a slut but she tried to respect that. Respect was the key word there. She hated knowing that at night, when the sun went down, he would be alone with her, making passionate, steamy, love. The same love he made to her, night after night. And here she was alone. Jason had canceled their dinner once again which mean Erika would spent another weekend alone.

"David, how are you?" She asked. She hated how their conversations now became so professional.

David gave Erika a warm smile. After the break up he had tried very hard to keep things civil and even friendly between them. For the boys sake but also since she was his first true love and he still cared for her. Unlike most couples they hadn't fought like cats and dogs after the break up. Still it was hard being around her. For years he had complete access to her and her body. There was no such thing as personal space. After crossing that line into intimacy for so long it was hard to see where it was and get back across it. Now when they were together it seemed so awkward.

"Good. Work has been busy but that's a good thing I guess. How about you?"

Her eyes looked him over. At one point in time, his body was hers. Only hers. When they were together, she knew she had complete access to him and now, his body was someone elses. It drove her crazy to know another womans hands were on him nightly. But they were over, she often had to remind herself of that.

"It's been okay for me too." She said, hating the awkwardness between them. "How is..what's her name..Sandy?"

[Alsing]

David was surprised that she brought up his girlfriend. She was polite but David knew Erika really didn't like Sandy. Mostly she wasn't wrong about Sandy but after losing Erika David was so lonely. Sandy was nothing more than physical companionship though. There were times when he was still lonely. Erika was the only one he really could talk to about anything.

"She's fine. How's Jason doing? I assume you two will enjoy having some time alone this weekend."

Erika knew Sandy was no good for David. Sandy was not capable of holding a deep conversation. So maybe she was hot, but nothing more than that. Erika wouldn't lie. She was lonely. Jason rarely spent the night. And lately, he wouldn't even come over. He bailed on all of our plans.

"He's fine. And if you must know, I won't be spending the weekend with him. He bailed on me...again." I admit, softly to my ex.

[Alsing]

David could read Erika like a book. It was a side effect of being so close. When she mentioned Jason he could tell she wasn't happy. David wondered if Erika could tell the same about him and Sandy. Wanting to comfort her some David closed the distance between them and gave her a hug. Rubbing her back some David said. "You deserve better than him Erika. I know that probably sounds wrong coming from me of all people but you are too good to let a guy treat you like that."

She sighed when she felt him pull her into a hug. She could feel his strong, manly hands on her back. She let herself stay in his arms for an extra moment before pulling back softly. "It's not a big deal." She lied, right through her teeth. "I can enjoy a quiet evening to myself." She said, knowing that she would let her mind go elsewhere..imagining David with someone else. God, it angered her.

[Alsing]

David could tell she didn't want to be alone. Sandy didn't really like his sons so on the weekends she never came around. It bothered David but he didn't make an issue of it after it seemed it only ended in fights.

"Tell you what. Why don't I take the kids to my mom's place. She's been dying to see them. Then we can have dinner. Catch up a little." He offered.

Even after their divorce, she still felt this connection to him. She knew he was with Sandy and she was with Jason but that didn't seen to matter. Despite the distance they tried to put between one another, she knew they had crossed that line of intimacy a long time ago..all the times they made passionate love. Somewhere in her mind, she liked to believe that he didn't have that connection with Sandy.

"David, it's fine. You should spend time with the boys." I tell him. "I'm a big girl, I'll be fine."

[Alsing]

"I was going to take them to mom's place for dinner anyway. She'll monopolize their attention anyway until we go home. Are you sure. I don't mind." He offered but decided not to push it any further. If she didn't feel comfortable being alone with him he could understand that.

"It's probably not a good idea." She said. She knew the connection they still had. She also knew Jason never loved her or could make love to her like David had. And she knew if they were alone, one needy kiss may turn into a needy night of love making.

"And you know why.." She said softly.

[Alsing]

David did know why but it hardly seemed like a good reason not to. He still wanted her more than any other woman. Being apart from her only made him realize it. He was such a fool to let them drift apart. If he got another chance he knew he'd do better but sadly that wasn't going to ever happen.

"I guess you're right." He gave her a warm smile. "I'm here for you if you ever need me. If you are too lonely don't hesitate to call." He laughed. "You'll be safe alone with me over the phone."

She smiled at his warm smile. He could always make her smile. She also knew that he was the only one she would ever really love. Jason meant nothing. He was a warm body in bed, that was all.

"You know, I miss you sometimes. When it's cold and lonely here.."

David nodded sadly. "I miss you too. You know I don't think I could ever stop loving you Erika." He said honestly. Lying to her was not something he had ever been comfortable with. She had been his best friend and he never felt a need to lie to her. The times he did left him feeling guilty.

"I don't believe that." I tell him. "You're an amazing guy and you made me happy for a very long time." I say. "And I know for a fact you can make another woman as happy as you made me." I tell him. I also knew the connection we shared. Our intimacy connection was stronger than anything I could ever have with anyone else.

[Alsing]

David shook his head sadly. "One day I'll probably have something similar but nothing like we had. I'll never forgive myself for letting myself lose you though." He gave her a sad smile. "I just hope you can find someone worthy of you Erika. I do want you to be happy."

She knew he was right. She nor he would be able to find what they once shared. They had this connection..this unbreakable one. As much as she tried to move on, her mind often went to him. Their endless nights of passionate love making or morning with one another. Just thinking about it, almost made her teary eyed. "I want that for you too. And if Sandy makes you that happy, then I'm happy for you." She said. She hated knowing another woman could make him as happy as she had but she had to accept it.

"Sandy doesn't make me happy. She helps me feel less lonely but I don't love her. She isn't you." He admitted. It was so selfish to tell her this stuff. She had moved on and was with Jason. He was a bastard as far as David was concerned but he was who Erika wanted. David needed to respect that. "Sorry." He said quickly and crossed his arms. "Forget I said anything."

"Don't be sorry." She said, placing her soft hand over his. Jason wasn't him and she knew that. He could never make her truly happy. And whenever she was alone, her mind drifted towards him. She hated that she still felt attracted to him. That she still needed him and thought about him.

David looked down at her hand then into her eyes. He felt a strong need to kiss her. A lot of practice at not crossing that line kept him in place though. "I just don't want you to think that I'm trying to guilt you over our separation. You have a new life and I don't want to interfere with that."
