Nate looked at her ankle by holding her running shoe. Swelling was apparent, but it appeared to be a sprain. He looked at her skin closely, it was such a thrill to actually have her foot in his hand and to hear her voice. His thoughts were not formulating a plan. "Here, let's move up to the porch and I will get the cordless phone for you. I'm Nate Conners."

Nate was puzzled at the turn of events. He pretended that he wasn't aware of what he heard and tended to her injured ankle by assisting her back to the bench. He then unlaced her red running shoe and carefully removed it and the sock. He held her foot straight as she continued to sob. After a few minutes, he reapplied the ice pack to the ankle.
