The Glory Hole
If you are homeless here, the Glory Hole (the actual name of our homeless shelter) will not allow you entry if you have the swine flu. Instead, the city will pay for you to stay in a damn nice hotel.

Now, I don't have a problem with the homeless people, but if I were a visitor to our lovely town and stayed at this hotel (at least $200/per night) I would be upset to find out that sick, contagious people were staying there, too.
Is it just me or does this seem kind of wrong.

Well, the name of the shelter is just wrong.
That the only way the homeless can be warm when they are sick is to go to a hotel is just wrong.
That there are homeless is just wrong.
Other than that, I guess at least a solution is being offered....

I wonder if the homeless in Anchorage go to a hotel, too?

But what if there are sick, contagious people there all the time that aren't homeless people? Tourists, the every day Joe who works there? We don't know who is or isn't until someone actually gets sick. People travel all the time and are ill, and unfortunately they spread to everyone else without discrimination.

are they on a floor not used by other guests?
or a different wing?
if not it seems a bit silly, putting the contagious in a hotel.

They will probably respect the room better than most guests. You dont even want to know how disgusting hotel rooms are.
Imagine walking in some dudes sploog all dried up on that nice carpeting because you are and will be walking through it.
Those heavy bedspreads? Yeah those get washed once a month.
Id be more at ease staying in a room after a homeless person was able to shower and sleep in a reasonably clean bed that you staying there having narly sex with your husband.
No offense meant.

It's stupid actually. How do they know these people have swine flu? By the time the testing is complete it's far too late.
"How did you die?"
"Oh, I died of the Swine Flu?"
"How do you know?"
"I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night."
