Red light cameras

They're causing a stir down here in Florida. Anyone else have them?

There's a whole site devoted to spotting them and ways to beat them and destroy them.

My problem with cameras giving tickets is it's a machine that gives a ticket to a machine.

Cars don't run red lights, people do.

If you borrow my car and run a red light, I shouldn't get the ticket.

It involves an old tire and some form of accelerant.

Yes!...we have them here.......it certainly creates and make you aware....I tend to be more careful when approaching intersections with them.Based upon the increasing number of persons running red lights.....especially at nights.....i can only see more of them being utilized.

Hook the cams up with the new face-recognition chips and we can mail jaywalking and littering tickets to your home too.

1. Why would you lend someone your car?
2. If you lent them your car you know they owe you the money.
3. When was the last time you lent someone your car?

just one more step towards an authoritarian government, we get more and more used to being watched by the powers that be every day. With the cost of the video camera going down and people acceptance of them rising, chances are, we'll see a hell of a lot more of them.

It's not like we were allowed to run red lights before.

I'm not implying that running red lights should be allowed, but the tracking and surveillance of citizens "for our own good" is something that should be opposed. I am NOT doing something wrong, but I still don't want my government monitoring me. That's a direct infringement upon my freedoms, in this case; privacy.

If you really believe that, then you haven't been paying attention very well.

This is why I think it's horseshit.

I also think that our cops should do their jobs- I've never seen one stop at a stop sign and only as a matter of life and death do they obey light signals.

The idea of cameras on the streets for busting people driving is eerily close to the government being in my home (relatively speaking).

Laws upon laws upon laws to make the lowest common denominator feel safe becaues they're too stupid to just be safe.

Don't drink the shampoo! Don't try this at home! Sue a heavy metal band if you feel suicidal!

I heard today about a Chicago woman suing the Brookfield Zoo because the dolphins were splashing water as part of a show, and no one warned her it might be slippery! Oooh, you better get your money's worth for not having to thinking critically for even a second in life! (though knowing water is slippery is hardly critical thinking).

We shouldn't have to be told how to behave to do it well; this is not what the founding fathers had in mind, methinks.

Actually, no it's not. You have no legal right to privacy on a public street.

Yes. This is why it has been adopted in die hard red states like Arizona and Florida.
